WHAT’S A KEIR?

• Khir = sweet rice, an Indian dessert.¹
• kier = a large vat in which fibers, yarns, or fabrics are boiled, bleached, or dyed. Also, keir. [1565-75; from the Old Norse ker meaning a vessel or vat]²
• Kir = an apertif of white wine or sometimes champagne flavored with cassis. [French, after Félix Kir (1876-1968), mayor of Dijon, who allegedly created the recipe]²

• The First Name of "Keir": Analysis of the name Keir by the Society of Kabalarians of Canada, erroneously listed as a female name. A woman from South Africa informed me by email that she is indeed a female Keir, but admits that her mother gave her a male name.
