WHAT’S A KEIR?
Keir (pronounced ker, with a long e) = a Celtic name meaning "dark-skinned"
Homophones of Keir (words which sound the same):
- Khir = sweet rice, an Indian dessert.1
- kier = a large vat in which fibers, yarns, or fabrics are boiled, bleached, or dyed. Also, keir. [1565-75; from the Old Norse ker meaning a vessel or vat]2
- Kir = an apertif of white wine or sometimes champagne flavored with cassis. [French, after Félix Kir (1876-1968), mayor of Dijon, who allegedly created the recipe]2
