Site History
October 1996:
North American Local Music Directory first went on-line at http://www.netcom.com/~teachey/local_music. Never advertised, linked only to my homepage. The original pages are still there, if you wanna look. Original site included links to bands from my hometown of Lexington, KY and the rest of the handful of "charter" members of the site, most of them from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.
Decemeber 1996:
Moved site to http://members.tripod.com/~barband after becoming thoroughly disgusted with the unreliability of Netcom's web servers. Actually advertised this site at Yahoo and made a few small additions, but not many. Found out Tripod only gives 200k for web space and moved to Geocities. The old Tripod site is still there... unless they decide to get rid of it :)
January 1997:
Moved NALMD to its current URL at Geocities. Greatly expanded links with huge additions to the Ontario, Washington, D.C., and Louisville, KY pages.
March 1997:
Did minor facelift to many of the pages, corrected links on the index page, and added several new bands from various locations. Advertised site on all major search engines and registered with linkexchange. Created history page after discovering the LocalScene which claimed to be the "first" Web site dedicated to local music (founded: March 7, 1997). Of course, they can afford their own domain name and have total searching capability and are activerly seeking commercial sponsorship. I run this for free on a free page and pull my hair out trying to learn and make this not look like total crap all at the same time. But I will stick to my mission; fear not faithful scenester.
