And So It Goes

by David Alan Scott Jr.
April 6, 1998

And so it comes to pass
You fade into the past
I saw you
I met you
But did I ever know you?

The end has just begun
The future comes undone
I see it
I feel it
It's time now to grab it

The morning fades to black
I see no turning back
I missed you
I lost you
It's time for something new

Behind me as I push ahead,
My mind will keep what time is dead
And so it goes
And so do I
And so I say, "good-bye".

PUBLICATION: The Crier, Vol. 35, No. 8, May 4, 1998, Corning Community College.

HISTORY: My last poem for the Corning Community College newspaper, and another reflection on the inevitability that I would (and should) leave my home town of Corning. It was written in the same vein as "Say Hello". Both poems were published in the paper, but while "Say Hello" is my message to myself that I must move on, "And So It Goes" is me relaying this message to the rest of Corning.
