Charlotte Templeton Bentley

Hello to all my fellow Ben Franklin classmates;

I’m thrilled to be coming to our 40th reunion and to have this chance to reconnect with so many fabulous folks after so many years. It’s already been great talking to Eileen, Jean, and Bobby about the reunion plans. Soon after our graduation, my family moved away from New Orleans, so I haven’t had many reasons or opportunities to return.

I went one semester to LSUNO then to Southeastern in Hammond. After graduating in 1970 I went to Illinois for grad school (MA in English, 72) and stayed at Southern Illinois University for a Ph.D. in Education. I left Illinois in 1978 for a position at UNLV in Las Vegas.

After a short side trip to Texas I returned to Las Vegas and am still here, though both my career and personal life took a few twists and turns over the years. Like so many of us I keep gravitating back to education – what a wonderful core value for our lives engendered by our time at Franklin.

I recently started working for National University (out of California) where I’ll be opening a site in Nevada. The attached photo is the pic used by National to announce my hiring last August.

Looking forward to April!

Ken Toups
how bout bits of info?

i graduated from UNO in 75 after 10 years and nearly 300 hrs. with a BA in philosophy... got married betw 71 and 75 - we never could establish when - 3 children - but my wife left in 85 & i have lost nearly all contact with all 4 of them. have worked at Merrill Lynch since 81 after working at the IRS since 77 and the LSU LIBRARY since 75 and the UNO LIBRARY SINCE 70. do not fit in at ML at all since i seldom invest in what the firm pushes - but positive results forces management to leave me alone. i view investing as an art, not a business. all these dull facts define my life - yet have liitle to do with me.

Update on Toups:

Retired on 2/12/02. Mother Merrill made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Married again( 2nd and the last) on 2/14/2003 to a woman who worked with me at the IRS a quarter of a century ago-I was impressed with her then because of her profound sarcasm- a sign of great intelligence- she is wonderful- a CPA and she does a mean tax return as well. I now have a relationship with my 3 children after an absence of a decade and a half- and Susan has 3 children too. Now we travel the world- and I pursue my real long term interest- creative whatever: writing(see end of message for a brief example)-drawing(combined with photography) and short stories conveyed by stringing pop songs from the 1920's to last week on CDs, telling a tale through the order of the music and completing the picture by creating a cover from one of my photos and/or prints(as altered)

Here is an example of my last writing( a mini column):

Bush, Clinton, Jerry and the press are lairs. Michael Moore had the chance to make a movie about the truth, but he was lazy and lied as well. He could be enjoying the fruits of his capitalistic labor to the tune of a billion dollar worldwide box office.

For the sake of argument, let's assume that Poland(with others) SECRETLY attacked the United States at least four times in the last dozen years, killing between three and four thousand people. Upon discovery, The U. S. could respond with one of the follwong choices: (a) do little or nothing, (b) let the United Nations handle it( even though several key member nations are on the payroll of the enemy). or (c) fight back. In this hard cruel world, choice (c) wins by default.

The crack in the door to the room full of reality is the book THE THRID TERRORIST by Jayna Davis. Substitute Iraq for Poland, then read on and get to work on the truth.

Carol Trice Pyfer

I am thrilled to have found the website for the class of 1965! I always wondered if our class ever had reunions. My parents retired and moved back to Texas in 1971, so I've never had a reason to return and so became one of the "lost" ones. I graduated from Baylor in 1969 with a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology -- then got my M.S. from Vanderbilt. I met my husband there and we moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania (his home) after he graduated from law school.

We've been in Lancaster for 33 years now. I recently retired from a part-time position as a speech pathologist -- I worked with special needs children ages 3-5. We have two adult children - Carrie and Trey (actually Carol Lee and John Pyfer, III - we were egotistical in the 70's and named our children after ourselves!) Our daughter is going to graduate school in San Diego, and our son manages a greenhouse business we have in Lancaster.

We stay happily involved in our community and plan to do more traveling next year after my husband John retires from his law firm.
