The year for this edition of Phil's Yearly Quiz is 1989. That was the year the Berlin Wall was broken down as was the hull of the Exxon Valdez in the Gulf of Alaska. When we weren't playing Tetris, we watched "Batman" and "Roseanne" and saw the Oakland A's overcome the San Francisco Giants and an earthquake to win the World Series. And this is what we listened to... (23 Hot 100 singles, 2 album tracks)

B2. Prior to 1989, two of the bands on this quiz had suffered the death of one of their members. Name both bands, the band members they've lost and the cause of death. (3 points)
B3. Of the solo artists and lead singers of the lyrics above, one had appeared on a Hot 100 single before another had even been born. Name both singers and the single the older one sang on before the second one's birth. Note that the older singer wasn't necessarily solo or with the above band at the time. (5 points)
