Bradley Nowell was a great musician, and an great guy. Not perfect,
but musically he was pretty close. Sublime's community was like no other,
and their music encompassed ska, rock, reggae, punk, and hip-hop all at
once.
Sublime was a perfect name to capture the band's entire nature. They were supreme in the way they viewed life, and they lived it to it's fullest. That's also why Bradley is dead; because he chose not to waste his time. His life could have been twice as long, but it would have been less valuable. True, he could have done without the Heroine, and he almost got off it, but most of the time he was living the good life. |

Nowell
Bradley Nowell was a genius and he usually lived optimistically. He was what he was, and not afraid to admit it. I don't know how anyone could disagree that he was a great person, but I'm sure some would call him a loser, as well as Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrisson. What's a loser? Somebody who chose to live life differently than you?
One thing that sorta pisses me off about the popular image of Sublime
is that they never really got recognized until "What I Got" was released.
Don't get me wrong, I love the song, but it doesn't represent them fully.
Now everyone has the Self-Titled album, and probably not half of those
people have 40oz to freedom and their other great albums. If you really
want to understand who they are, listen to 40oz and you'll get it. I didn't
really know what they were about until I heard that. Now I understand why
they were one of the greatest bands of all time, and despite the MTV Pop-Culture,
there's more to music than the few songs they play over and over again.
That's all I can really say, but I'll probably add more later. It's
hard to put any of this into words...
Other Tributes:
"This Section of the Hood is reserved for Bradley James Nowell On May 25, 1996 The World not only lost the most talented musician of the century, We Lost A Friend. Brad left us more memories then most individuals when they pass on. He blessed us with the words of wisdom we so long to hear from each other. I've personally gained more then influential knowledge from Brad, I've found secret insights to life never explored through my concious mind. He's given me a life time of meaningless, yet important facts to ponder. Maybe you have no fucking clue what I'm speaking about and you probably won't until you hear what his music and message really have to say. It's far beyond anything I could ever sit here and explain on this page but as I said, if you don't know now, listen to the endless hours of pleasure he's provided our lives with and give it time. Brad will get in touch with you. I'd like to say he was just far ahead of his time but honestly, that would be an understatement. The World may never see the likes of another individual like Mr. Nowell. On the Real, Brad knows exactly what everyone of us are thinking right now. Because he's in our headz & in our heartz forever, eternally."
