-Where did they get the name Serial Joe from?
There was this guy named "Sergio" who lived near them but this little girl couldn't pronounce his name so she called him Serial Joe .

-Who picked the name Serial Joe?
Ryan thought of it, the rest of the band liked it because it was short and easy to remember

-How did the band originaly get together?
Just 4 guys from school who like jammin' together... then things got more serious

-Wasn't Ryan Dennis the guy in Our Lady Peace's video Superman's Dead?
Yes and he was also at the MuchMusic Video Awards when OLP won best video.

-Do they go to school?
Yes, School is very important for them. They finished grade 8 at Armitage Village Public School. And now they are attending Newmarket high, except for Ryan who is at Unionville in a special art programme

-Does Ryan take voice lessons?
RYAN TAKES VOICE LESSONS FROM A GUY NAMED STEVE WARREN, HE IS THE LEAD SINGER IN A BAND CALLED THE STONE IDOLS THEY ARE ALSO FROM NEWMARKET AND HAVE HAD A FEW VIDEOS I THINK THEIR LAST ONE WAS CALLED FIBERGLASS. (Debbie Dennis)

-How did they get dicovered?
Serial Joe was one of the eight winners in a contest held by The New VR. They won 10 hours of recording time at Barrie's Power Plant Studio along with three performance-oriented videos to be filmed by The New VR staff.

-Did they ever do cover songs?
THEY USED TO DO TINFOIL, REMOTE CONTROL, BIG ME, AND THE SALAD THEME SONG. (Debbie Dennis)

Yeah I do, several actually. I'm not gonna put them up here though... I'll save Ryan the embarrassment. The dress looked good on him though... but the lipstick had to go!

-What nationality are they?
Ryan, Stever and John are about as Canadian as you can get. Dan is Canadian too but his mother (Diane) is half Hawiian and half Japanese and his dad is Polish. (From: Cinzia Di Franco)

They take turns answering their e-mail but sometimes it takes a while cuz they're busy.

No, they LOVE performing!

-How often do they practice?
They practice 2 or 3 times a week.

Ryan doesn't have internet; Dan, Jon and Stever have it but don't have much time to go on.

Nope

Besides music, do they have any other talents?
Dan, Ryan, and Stever are artists who sketch. Jon's talent seems to be music.

-How come Jon isn't wearing any shoes when they're in a pic walking?
It's a knock-off of the Abbey Road pic of the Beatles.

Ryan was just driving home from Toronto one day thinking about a name and he just liked kicked

They all like the video for Skidrow better except for Dan who likes Obsession more since he got to make it with the fans

-When will they come to the USA?
Their first show ever in the States was the popular Woodstock '99 festival!

-What do they think of all their really *obsessed* fans?
The band loves talking and meeting new fans but do find all the screaming and obsessing a little annoying

-How do they manage going to school and touring?
Education is very important to them but their music is as well. Since things in that category are going extremely well for them, they would reallylike to have a tutor so they could do more of both ata the same time.

-What does the band think of the Serial Joe hate sites?
Here's a quote from Jon on that subject : "It's pretty pathetic, y'know. With the time and effort they put into this, they've got some pretty sad lives"

Ryan : Starwars

Yes, ever since they signed with Aqarius Records, their label has set up an official website. It has been running since May '99 ... Check it out!

Well when they were younger they did : Ryan's was "Captain Crayfish" and Stever's was "the over-developped child" !

They love Silverchair and if anything it's a huge compliment !

The crowd interaction, it's a big rush for them

Stever took lessons from a guy named Dave Ziemba but Ryan taught himself

Face Down went Gold in September '99- which means over 50 000 copies have been sold !

-Is Ryan the only one who sings or does anyone else sing?
Yes but in some songs (e.q. Centipied) Dan and Stever sing back up

-Do any of them drive yet?
Nope! None of them are old enough yet but Ryan says that he talks about it all the time and is really looking forward to getting it- he's counting the days!

-How old were they when they got their first contract?
Their first album, Kicked, was an independant release. It's only early this year (1999) that they signed with Aqarius Records before releasing Face Down this June

-How many strings does Jon's bass have?
Strings?? 5 :)

-Almost all of SJ's songs sound angry. What are they writing about?
Ryan : "These songs were all written at different times, about different feelings." ... "That's the way we write our music; it's fun to us. It's not like we hate the world, it's just the way we like our music to sound."

-How long did it take them to get Face Down done?
Incredibly enough they recorded it during March Break ('99) in only 13 days! Then they went out to Vancouver for mixing in Brian Adam's studio.
