The Honeymoon
Jill
and I have decided that we are traveling to Charleston, SC
for our Honeymoon. We had actually looked at a few different
places, but finally settled on Charleston for 2 reasons. It
incorporates history and the beach so there's something to
make both of us happy.
Now
that the Honeymoon is over (yeah, I know it sounds cliche),
we can give you all a better idea of what we did on our vacation.
We stayed at the Embassy
Suites Historic District right in the middle of town.
It was great because we could walk to most of the things we
wanted to do. It was a beautiful hotel, and I think both Jill
and I were very happy with the accommodations.
On
our first day in Charleston, we walked to the Visitor's
Center to see what sites we might want to take in while
we were there. After grabbing a bunch of brochures Jill decided
that she wanted to check out the open air market first. So
we walked down King
Street and over to the Market Street market. For lunch
we checked out this really neat restaurant called the Mellow
Mushroom where we got a great pizza. After that we went
back to the hotel to chill by the pool and figure out what
we were going to do.
That
night we checked out Bubba
Gumps for dinner. This was another restaurant that was
a lot of fun. Interesting side note, Jill had ordered a Caesar
Salad here, which there ended up being an issue with, so they
ended up taking it off our bill (this was an odd trend during
our trip). After that we checked out the Ghost
& Dungeon walking tour. That was probably the one
thing we could have skipped and we'd have been happier.
The
second day we checked out Drayton
Hall. What was interesting about Drayton Hall is the fact
that they're doing they're best to preserve the original house
the state that it's in rather then restoring it. In other
words the original paints and things are still on the walls.
As a result it looks a little run down in the pictures, however,
you get a better appreciation for what parts of it they've
been able to keep looking as they did.
After
Drayton Hall we came back and went to lunch at Moe's
Southwest Grill. As with all the other food, it was really
good. From there we went to Fort
Sumter National Monument. Unfortunately with the long
boat ride, you don't get a lot of time to spend on the actual
fort. However, it's still pretty neat to see it. After that
we went on one of the carriage tours of downtown Charleston,
with the Old
South Carriage Company. It was a nice way to see the city
and I recommend it to anyone that goes.
That
night we checked out a little pub called O'Reilly's
Irish Pub and Seafood Tavern. We had a great Irish style
dinner, threw some darts and then headed back to the hotel
to relax in the hot tub & pool.
On
our last day in town, we headed out to Isle of the Palms to
hang out at the beach for the better part of the morning.
Then we headed back to the hotel and got cleaned up for a
little site seeing. However, before we headed out to see what
we could find, we had lunch at Joe
Pasta. Jill and I both went the Pick-a-pasta route which
was excellent! This was the second restaurant that Jill had
an issue with getting a Caesar salad, and again, it didn't
show up on our bill.
Anyway,
we ended off our site seeing with a visit to the Charleston
Museum. Jill mainly wanted to visit the museum for their
special Redcoats, Hessians & Tories exibit. This was actually
a slight letdown, because we were hoping to see more actual
uniforms. However what they did have was very interesting.
Once
we were finished at the museum we went back to the hotel for
their cocktail hour. After we had our fill, we did a little
more shopping and got some ice cream, then returned to the
hotel to relax.
The
next morning we finished what shopping we didn't get to do
the day before, packed up the car and got on the road again.
All in all it was a great, and relaxing honeymoon. If you'd
