Maybe this is my favourite of all Beatles guitars. But, in fact, contrary to the folklore, George didn't have one, but two of these, both acquired in 1963. George used both on a number of historic shows and studio recordings. However, on a tragical august 1965, the guitar felt from the equipment truck while the Beatles were on their way to Blackpool. The guitar felt into multiple pieces, and that's how an instrument of unvaluable value and beauty was lost forever. At least we still have the second one, right? Wrong. George gave it in late 1965 to Brian O'Hara of the Fourmost, who absurdly traded the instrument ofr something. At least, as far as we know, it hasn't fallen from a truck, so it's out there somewhere. My only consolation is that there are pictures of George in his late fourties holding a country gentleman very similar to the ones he used in the Beatles. Maybe he realized he should never have passed that beauty away. |
