About this page

One of the lovely things about the Beatles is that every person likes a different thing in them. Some collectors prefer books, some prefer photos, some, rare issues of the same records. Some of them have so much time and money to dedicated to their hobby that they have to get EVERYTHING!! Well, my main interest in the Beatles are records, both official and bootlegs, both solo and together.

This page intend to be an interesting font both for the ordinary fan and the serious collector. It cointains general information on the Beatles, but concentrates on their recordings. It is not a page about hisotry or a musical phenomenon. It is a page about art. One should find here lots of interesting things on rare recordings, obscure songs and more known material.

I first got into the Beatles internet world looking for a trading partner. Somwone who could send me some tapes of rare recordings and I would return the favour. But feeling that since 1989 I've gathered some interesting things, I fel like I had to share this with beatlepeople somehow. So I decided to show everybody a little about what I have and what I think about John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Assuming that it is virtually impossible to get ALL Beatles records unless I live for it, I consider myself a 'selective' colector. I don't buy every bootleg or rare record which cross me. There are dozens of records from Paul's 'New World Tour', for example. I try to get only the ones I consider more important. Or the ones which bring some interesting version. The other ones make me glad if I can reord them from some friend.

Most people, even those who love the more unusual work, don't follow some beatle's career. Most people don't like Ringo that much. I have always felt the need of having someone to talk about Ringo, or about any obscure tune. In this page, I tried to create the space to that, by showing everything I have and I like.

The information in this page is ecletic. I'll give the lyrics to some records like 'Please please me' and 'With the Beatles', but on other I'll prefer to write a review or tell about some interesting history.

By being ecletic, I hope everybeatle fan will find something interesting here.

About the Beatles and me

In the end of 1988, when I was only thirteen years old, I had a heavy metal band called Garrotevil. My two mates were my very best friends and I loved them... I still do. Missing a week to our first ahow, our bassplayer left the group to join other people. In the first moment, we, the remaining members, were astonished. We had been awaiting for our fist show for so long and we could not believe our best friend had left us. But we decided to continue, and we dicided to seek out new music forms and new civilizations... to boudly go where no teenager musician had never gone before.

So we began listening to other kind of music, like Dire Straits and Pink Floyd. Later, when our beloved friend came back to our group as the prodigal son, he brought Guns'n'roses within him. 'We will play old rock'n'roll now', the band decided.

Dominated by this idea, one day around april 1989 I went to my grandmother's house to see some old records she had there. There were dozens of vinyl records from my uncles' youth and one of them atracted my attention: an old mono brazilian version of 'Help!', by The Beatles. 'Yes, I know them... What do they sound like? Let's find out'. I brought the record to my house. That band was only a part of rock'n'roll history for me, and listening to them was a research.

I remember clearly putting the record on my player, listening to that familiar 'shhh' from old records. The James bond Theme began. And silence. For about one second, silence. And then I heard it.

First, the dinstictive intro and then those harmonies. I was completly astonished by that song. I had never heard anything like that. For the next days I heard that record a hundred times. From that moment one my life would never be the same. I could say that everything which happened to me after I met the Beatles I owe to them. My interest in old rock'n'roll and blues. My interest in literature, in love, my growing desire in being a musician, the passion I let dominate my life. Everything. I love the Beatles, in which the word 'love' has of most authentic and strong.

One could imagine that now, almost ten years later and thousands of autitions of 'Help!', it is just not that anymore. One could imagine that 'Help!' or other songs do not thrill me anymore. That is wrong.

Even now everytime I put the 'Help!' CD in my player, I get touched when I hear the sound of the machine working, reading data from the disc. When I press the play buttom, I get excited because I know that soon I will hear that sound again. And when it appears that 00:00 in my display, I know that it is just one second left. Then I hold my breath.

And again I hear it. And everytime I listen to that song, or any other song from them, it is like if everything is happening again. Once more I feel the surprise; when I see them, darlings, it's like I'm falling in love again. John, Paul, George and Ringo: I love you. If I ever get the chance of expressing you the gratitude for the magic you brouth to us, I will be the happiest living being in the world.

Other interests

Well well well... Being the site almost ten years old - I'm writing in late 2004 -, I thought it was about time for an upgrade on my "Other interest section".

Besides Beatles, I still love Elvis and superheores, and have been dealing a lot with toys too. Music in general is a very big part of my life. Also, I keep teaching Literature and Portuguese, and I feel this teacher thing has grown a lot in me in recent years. Be my guest to know more about my other hobbies and professfional activities, visting my other sites.

Carol and I now are married and we have a beautiful son, Gabriel. We've been blessed to love each other and have this amazing boy who amazes us everyday. And tI do think these are just the first chapters of a very long and happy story.

Internet has changed a lot, and maybe there's nor room anymore for a more personal comment here, so I'll just leave the door open for future friends to come in.

Meanwile, I hope you'll keep enjoying the Beatles Website!
