FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite British rock band other than Oasis?", and here are the results:
The Verve - 3 British rock is known to have some of the best bands and singers in the world. True, they have different styles, attitudes and popularity, but they are all quality rock. This week I asked about your favorite British rock band other than Oasis. Obviously, Oasis is the favorite band of most of the people who are reading this now, since this is an Oasis page, but who says you only have to like one band? "The Verve", who used to be Oasis' warm-up band, have the music that's closest to Oasis other than every other band, probably, and I think that's why they won this week's favorites. Radiohead are a higher level of rock, they have more sophisticated style, but then again, some people dislike it and prefer the simpleness. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "If Oasis were to record '(WTS)MG?' in more than 2 weeks, would it have come out even better?", and here are the results:
Yes - 4 It took 2 weeks for Noel Gallagher to write the songs that appeared on Oasis' second album, "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?". Two weeks. It took another two weeks for the band to get in the studio and record the songs for the album, which sold over 15,000,000 copies worldwide. Two weeks. The question is, if Oasis were to take their time with recording and produce the songs more thoroughly, would the album as a whole come out even better, higher-classed? Most of you thought so, and so do I. The songs in Morning Glory are simply perfect, and perhaps if they were to be worked on more, they would have come out with better guitar and bass lines, and most of all - cleaner - less messy. Notice that on Be Here Now more work was put into the album and you can see how that comes out on the overall level of albums, the songs themselves, anyone can decide which he likes better. |
FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite Oasis VHS video?", and here are the results:
There and Then - 7 Oasis, like practically every big band, have released a couple of official home-videos (VHS) so that their fans could watch proffessionally-recorded live concerts at home whenever they feel like it. Besides, it brings in more money. The only two (so far) officially distributed (don't forget about bootleg cassettes) are "There and Then" and "Live By the Sea". There and Then, the winning of the two, was recorded both at Maine Road and Earl's Court, in front of 120,000 fans. This is a later gig than the other video, Live By the Sea, which was recorded at Southend Cliffs Pavilion, before the release of (WTS)MG?. Even so, "Some Might Say" was played there. There and Then contains a larger variety of songs since it is a gig following (WTS)MG?. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "Should Noel lead-sing on more than 1 song in the next Oasis album?", and here are the results:
Yes - 9 This is an important question, which will effect the next album. On "Definitely Maybe", Noel did not even sing one song, except "Sad Song" on the vinyl version. Later, both on "(WTS)MG?" and "Be Here Now" Noel sang one song on every album: "DLBIA" and "Magic Pie". I personally liked that Oasis did that, because it reminded people that Noel also has great vocals, and that he's not only good for acoustic tracks and b-sides. On Morning Glory the argument was between Wonderwall and DLBIA (which one Noel sings), but Liam stuck to Wonderwall stubbornly. On BHN, the argument was between Fade In/Out and Magic Pie, at the end of which Liam gave "his best vocals ever" according to Noel. So will Noel sing more than 1 song next time? We'll have to wait and see. |
FavoritesThe question was: "What's your favorite Oasis bootleg?", and here are the results:
250,000 Oasis Fans Can't Be Wrong - 3 Another thing Oasis can be proud of is how many bootlegs their fans have made of their concerts, sessions, interviews, and more. Since Oasis is considered the best show of the 90's (according to Q Magazine) many fans record the gigs and distribute the bootlegs. The results of this week's question, although not many people voted, make complete sense. "250,000 Oasis Fans Can't Be Wrong" is a double CD of the huge Knebworth concert and more, so obviously many people obtained it. "The Acoustic Sessions" and "Undrugged" are both acoustic CD's with lots of songs with Noel's vocals, so that's a pleasure to have at home. And finally, "the Lost Tapes" contains rare and early Oasis tracks. If you get this bootleg, you get to hear what the old Oasis were like. |
Opinion PollThe question was: "Will Oasis ever do another big show like Knebworth?", and here are the results:
Yes - 9 On August 10th, 1996 (exactly 2 years ago), Oasis performed the first day of the Knebworth concert, with the biggest audiences in Britain for any show headlined by a single act, ever: 250,000 people (a quarter-million!!). That was considered a huge success, the band made a fortune, and also attending were other bands like the Prodigy, Ocean Color Scene, Kula Shaker and more. The big question is whether Oasis will decide to do a thing like this again in the future. All of you answered yes, but let me warn you not to get your hopes too high up. Although I think that this will be done again, you gotta remember that (WTS)MG? came out October 1995, and the show was August 1996. That's a 10 month period. Since Be Here Now, which came out August 1997, passed already 12th months. I think that we can rule out the possibility of Oasis doing a big show any time soon, but maybe after the 4th album (if it will be as successful as the other 3 albums) we can have another Knebworth. |
