Hey Now - Weekly Section Results

Month of February 1998

February 22nd to February 28th

Favorites

The question was: "What's your favorite Oasis video clip?", and here are the results:

All Around the World - 9
Don't Look Back in Anger - 2
D'You Know What I Mean? - 2
Whatever - 2
Stand By Me - 1
Morning Glory - 1
Wonderwall - 1

This was pretty much what I expected. "All Around the World", one of the best video clips ever made, taking it big-time. It was done by two Americans who also did "Tonight Tonight" for the Smashing Pumpkins. It is animated and is influenced by the Beatles' famous "Yellow Submarine". It starts off with a little girl picking a flower, which turns out to be a spaceship, in which the band is and starts playing the song. Then the spaceship goes all around the world on adventures against the bad guys. Great song, too. I was disappointed to get only 18 votes.

Opinion Poll

The question was: "Who is a better lead singer?", and here are the results:

Liam - 10
Noel - 2

Well finally it's official: Liam is a better singer than Noel, according to most people. Noel sings much less songs than Liam does, mainly the acoustic b-sides, while Liam is the main singer who sings most of the songs. In fact, Noel said himself that Liam is not only a better singer than he is, but that Liam is the best singer of his generation, and I have to say I agree with that comment. Liam has a clean voice which he brings out will all of his heart, turely a talented vocalist. Only 12 voted this week, which is too bad.

February 15th to February 21st

Favorites

The question was: "What's your favorite Oasis album?", and here are the results:

(What's the Story) Morning Glory? - 9
Be Here Now - 7
Definitely Maybe - 4

I expected Be Here Now to come in at 1st place, but apparently I was wrong. (WTS)MG? seems to be the fans' favorite album (so far). And when I think about it, the biggest hits did come from it: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Roll With It... Definitely Maybe is old and loudest Oasis, which is the band's basis, and it looks like it is the least liked. The number of votes is coming up slowly. 20 people voted this week, one better than last.

Opinion Poll

The question was: "Who did a better job as Oasis' drummer?", and here are the results:

Alan White - 13
Tony McCarrol - 0

This week's question was pathetic. Alan blew Tony away to bits. Whoever doesn't know, Tony McCarrol was the original Oasis drummer who was kicked out of the band by the brothers Gallagher who pretty much hated him. After doing "Definitely Maybe" with them, he was replaced by Alan White, the current drummer. It's everyone's opinion that Alan is a better drummer, although there is no doubt that Tony was also very good. Take "Digsy's Diner" for example. Tony did a great job there. But Alan really is better, and it shows most in "Wonderwall" performed on the unplugged show and on "All Around the World (Reprise)". The opinions counted each week are more and more, but at a slow pace - 13 this week.

February 8th to February 14th

Favorites

The question was: "What's your favorite Oasis b-side?", and here are the results:

Acquiesce - 5
Flashbax - 3
I Am the Walrus - 2
Whatever - 2
The Masterplan - 2
Fade Away - 1
Live Forever (Live) - 1
Talk Tonight - 1
Listen Up - 1
D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman? - 1

That was pretty much expected. Aquiesce is a great song and the only one sung both by Noel and Liam. It was a surprise for me to see that Flashbax is so popular. More people voted this week - 19 - which is better than last week's 16, but there should be more.

Opinion Poll

The question was: "Does Oasis' music sound like the Beatles'?", and here are the results:

A little - 9
Not at all - 2
Yes - 1

This is a question that's very talked about. There has been a lot of comparison between Oasis and the Beatles. I think that's very flattering for Oasis to be compared to the Fab Four, and that the two bands' music is a little alike, but not entirely. That was the opinion of most of the voters. There still are too little people voting - 12 - but that's better than last weeks' 10.

February 1st to February 7th

Favorites

The question was: "What's your favorite Oasis album songs?", and here are the results:

Slide Away - 4
Live Forever - 3
Don't Go Away - 2
Cigarettes and Alchohol - 1
All Around the World - 1
Married With Chilren - 1
I Hope, I Think, I Know - 1
Columbia - 1
Be Here Now - 1
It's Getting Better (Man!!) - 1

Slide Away was this week's surprise. I knew it was liked, but not so much. Surprisingly missing were Wonderwall and Stand By Me. I hope to get more votes next week, only 16 voted this week.

Opinion Poll

The question was: "When will Oasis release their 4th album?", and here are the results:

By the end of 1999 - 9
By the end of 2000 - 1

There's no doubt about it: Within 1998 is too early to write and record all of the songs (Noel himself said he will take the summer off) and everyone thinks there will be a fourth one. Not a lot submitted here either, only 10 opinions were counted.
