My Views

Zack de la Rocha's views and statements often speak out against the wrongs of society in today's world. Although I do not agree with all of his ideas, Zack provides an interesting outlook on the situations that everyone faces. It is not his or my goal to permanetly change the way you think, just to make you look at things from another perspective..

my favorite pic Zack de la Rocha is a man unafraid to stand for those things which he believes in. This is clearly shown by the PMRC incident, in which he and the other band members stood naked on stage with electrical tape over their mouths, the letters PMRC written on their chests, with the guitar feedback the only noise around them. They protested on stage like this for nearly 15 minutes. Their cause, a statement against the Parents Musical Resource Council, a group that promotes censorship of music through stickers and ratings on albums. Rage wanted to say that if censorship continues, the fans will never be able to see band like Rage. For those of you who are concerned, yes they played a free concert a few days later.

I also feel that Zack de la Rocha has always taught the ideals of non-conformity. This is best shown in the lyrics for the song entitled:

TAKE THE POWER BACK

In the right light, study becomes insight
But the system that dissed us
Teaches us to read and write
another great pic So called facts are fraud
They want us to allege and pledge
And bow down to their god
Lost the culture, the culture lost
Spun our minds and through time
Ignorance has taken over
We gotta take the power back
Bam, heres the plan
Mother fuck Uncle Sam
Step back, I know who I am
Raise up your ear, I'll drop the style and clear
It's beats and lyrics they fear
The rage is relentless
We need a movement with a quickness
You are the witness of change
And to counteract
We gotta take the power back

Chorus
We gotta take the power back
We gotta take the power back

The present curriculums
I put my fist in 'em
Eurocentric every last one of 'em
See right through the red, white and blue disguise
With lecture, I puncture the stucture of lies
Installed in our minds and attempting
To hold us back
We've got to take it back
'Cause holes in our spirit are causin' tears and fears
One-sided stories for years and years and years
I'm inferior, who's inferior
Yea, we needa check the interior
Of the system who cares about only one culture
And that is why we gotta take the power back

Chorus

The teacher stands in front of the class
But the lesson plan he cant recall
The student's eyes dont percieve the lies
Bouncing off every fucking wall
His composure is well kept
I guess he fears playing the fool
The complacent students sit and listen to to the Bullshit
that he learned in school
Europe ain't my rope to swing on
Can't learn a thing from it
Yet we hang from it
Gotta get it, Gotta get it together then
Like the mother fuckin' weatherman
To expose and close the doors on those who try
To strangle and mangle the truth
'Cause the circle of hatred continues unless we react
We gotta take the power back

Chorus

I feel that this song definitly summarizes the ideals of non-conformity. One should not be another nameless follower, another sheep in the flock, rather, one should stand up for what they believe in, fight the norm and be their own person.Or as Zack de la Rocha puts it in the song entitled, Township Rebellion, "Why stand on a silent platform, fight the war, fuck the norm!"
