The genus Linum contains some 200 species of plants. The most common member, L. usitatissimum, is vastly important commercially. Otherwise known as common flax, this plant has been widely used by humans throughout history and the present day. Human uses of flax range anywhere from use in textiles (especially linen), linoleum, dietary supplements, and medicines.
