In 1963, The Escorts were voted the ninth most popular group in Liverpool by readers of the "Merseybeat". At first glance this may mot seen very impressive, until you realise that there literally hundreds of groups active in the city at that time. They never had much success in terms of record sales, only one of their six singles reached the Top 50 and No. 49 at that. Even when Paul McCartney began producing them towards the end of their career in '66. Sylvester would leave to join The Swinging Blue Jeans before eventually replacing Graham Nash in The Hollies.
