Freddie Garrity - vocals (born November 14th 1940, Manchester)

Roy Crewsdon - guitar (born May 29th 1941, Manchester)

Derek Quinn - guitar (born May 24th 1942, Manchester)

Pete Birrell - bass guitar (born May 9th 1941, Manchester)

Bernie Dwyer - drums (born September 11th 1940 , died December 4th 2002)

Formed in 1959 in Manchester, when Garrity, who had played in several "skiffle" groups in the late 50s, decided to put his own group together.

In 1961, the Dreamers successfully auditioned for BBC radio, resulting in appearances on programmes such as "The Beat Show". Although they were still working on a semi-professional basis, they also toured England and secured a residency at the Top Ten Club in Hamburg.

In late 1962, following some further BBC appearances they were offered a recording contract by Columbia and turned professional. The first record "If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody", released in May 1963, was an instant success and the group were set on a career singing lightweight beat ballads with some comedy thrown in.

Like many of the other beat groups, they didn't write much original material themselves and therefore had to rely on professional songwriters like Mitch Murray who provided them with their next two hits "I'm Telling You Now" and "You Were Made For Me".

By the end of '63 The Dreamers' had had three top three hits and had toured with Roy Orbison. More chart success follwed in '64 and they ended that year appearing in The Beatles' Christmas Show at Hammersmith Odeon.

Despite continuing to have occasional hits they progressed more and more towards the panto and cabaret circuit and Garrity eventually disbanded The Dreamers in 1970 and became an entertainer on children's TV.
