Formed in Newcastle during the early 60s, the Gamblers were the resident band at local night-spot The Majestic. They are probably best known for acting as back-up band to Billy Fury during 1963 and 64. During that period they made an appearance in a film, "I've Gotta Horse", which starred Fury.

While playing with Fury they were signed as recording artists in their own right by his record company, Decca. None of their records sold very well and after the partnership split they were soon back on the ballroom/club circuit.
