The Overlanders were a folk trio signed by producer Tony Hatch to Pye Records in 1963. They were perhaps too wholesome for the British market and better suited to mid-sixties America.

Their line-up consisted of Paul Arnold, Laurie Mason and Peter Bartholomew who were later augmented by the rhythm section of Widlake and Welsh.

The Overlanders played an uncomfortable mixture of folk and beat music and, despite reaching No. 1 with their version of The Beatles song "Michelle", they never really caught on in Britain.

Arnold left and was replaced by Ian Griffiths in late '66.
