Backtrack
1993-1996

It's obvious at this point, that between 1993 and 1996 I worked with several bands while I was recovering from heart disease and looking for something fun and premanant. One of these was The Blues Brothers Review, fronted by Louie and Carl from Escondido (a couple of Ackroid and Belushi look-alikes) and another was Backtrack. It was fronted by Terry Archer, guitar and vocals and a huge Neil Diamond fan, and his sometimes wife, Carol on keyboards & vocals. Also in the band when I first joined were Wally Gordon on drums and Doug Harrison on guitar and vocals. I began as a stand-in for their regular bass player Virgil, and ended up playing off and on with them for a little over two years. The show was heavily Neil Diamond (no surprise there). After a period of time, Doug moved to Los Angeles and was replaced by Larry Czarnecki. One night, while we were playing at Rosie O'Grady's in Normal Heights, Doug walked in. It was a good thing...about 30 minutes later, I had a heart attack and collapsed on stage. Doug spent the rest of his night standing in for me on bass.

Once I recovered, I decided it was time for a band I could manage, based on my health limitations and still have fun working with. I called Doug. I called George Lewis. Both were free and willing. But first, there was . . .
