The Cleverly Brothers
1997-2000
The Cleverly Brothers are special. They are my partner at the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce, Andy Phemister, and me. We've only appeared in public a few times, but those performances have been highly memorable. The first was at a retirement party for Gordon Austin, the former CEO of the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce, July of 1997. We did a parody of The Smothers Brothers song "My Old Man" for an audience of about 100. It was the first time I ever played a stand up bass violin, after only 2 hours of practice! There is video tape of this, which I highly cherish.
We've also appeared at Chamber Christmas gatherings, both public and private. The picture above was taken in Andy's living room on December 25, 2000. Andy is a trombone player and also plays guitar. With a bit of rehearsal, we could actually give the Smothers Brothers a run for their money (grin).
