Pete is a master at creating the combination I talk about on the "My
Influences" main page. At this time, I only have the pleasure of
hearing his work on the three King Diamond albums. I wish there were
more recordings of his amazing playing. He and Andy La Rocque were
a fantastic guitar team in King Diamond, but Pete is just as fantastic
as an individual player. His totally rockin' leads always had melody
and were totally full of emotion. I'm sure that stlye can be attributed
to his liking of Barocque era Classical music. In addition to his
leads, the songs he wrote had a catchy, yet heavy, vibe. He wrote
"Father Picard" on King D's "The Eye" album, and if you listen to that,
you'll hear exactly what I mean. If I had the talent to write good
metal songs, some of the first ones I wrote would be in the same style
as that one.
Unfortunately, Pete parted ways with King Diamond back around 1991,
because of what was reported to be lack of enthusiasm and drug probems.
If this is true, it's yet another case of fuckin' drugs taking some great
away from life, and in this case, that's Pete's guitar playing.
He has a new band called Blakk Totem, and their new record is supposed
to be out early this year (1999). I can't wait!
