With Tommy McCook & The Supersonics band. Ellis recorded Rock Steady after, he recalls, "touring with Byron Lee around Jamaica. Byron's trumpeter, Jo Jo Bennett opened the show each night saying 'People get ready, for this is rock steady!' and that gave me the idea for this song." Trojan single. Produced by Duke Reid.
