Square Bubbles

Jok Church created a book and an experiment kit called theBeakman and Jax Bubble Book: Plus Everything You Need To Make A Real Square Bubble. On Amazon.com, he made a statement on it and I thought it was pretty cool, so I posted the interview here.

Come on? A square bubble?

Actually it's true. The toy and solution that comes with the book allow you to make this fragile work of art. Part of its beauty is that it shouldn't be able to exist, and yet there it is. Another part of its beauty is how we feel, knowing that in a minute or less it will break and be a memory. While not mentioned in the book, I wrote it with the art of Christo & Jeanne-Claude in mind. I've worked on their Running Fence, The Umbrellas and Wrapped Reichstag. The beauty of those installations was involved in their temporary nature. For me a bubble in the shape of a cube is much the same thing. Here now and beautiful and in a moment...gone.
