Episode Summary -- July 2, 1991 Transcribed by Sandra

Well everybody, I was feeling a bit nostalgic.  Don't know if any of you have this episode on tape.  If you don't, here it is...  It's Jack & Jennifer's wedding (starring Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves).  I thought it would be kind of fun to read the dialogue from the show.  Their wedding was almost like watching a comedy show.  The wedding took place at a Wild West rodeo show arena.  And according to Beth Porchey's Days Page, "The wedding date was set when Jack announced to Jennifer in front of the WATB news camera (at the courthouse) that she could invite whomever she wanted to the wedding. All of Salem ended up being invited (and 4000 attended)..."

By the way, in case you're wondering what the bride and groom looked like that day, here is a picture I found on Dustin's Days Page taken on the day of the actual taping of the ceremony:  Jack & Jennifer's wedding picture.

Jennifer is in her apartment, the loft, and she's on the telephone.   She looks really upset and really nervous too.  Carly is standing near Jennifer.

Jennifer -- Roman, have you heard anything?  I mean, has Jack....  [listens for answer]  Yes.  Yes, I understand.  Okay, well I'll either be here or at the arena.  Alright, thanks.

[Jennifer hangs up the phone]

Carly -- Nothing yet?

Jennifer -- No.  Nothing period.  No one has heard a word from Jack since yesterday.  No one has even seen him.  Something is wrong, Carly.  Something is definitely wrong!  I just...

[there's a knock at Jennifer's door.  Jennifer really smiles]

Jennifer [smiling, to Carly] -- Jack.

Carly -- Ha. ha ha  What did I tell you?

[Jennifer runs to the door and smiles, assuming it's Jack.]

Jennifer  [as she's running to open the door] -- Jack!  Could you just tell me where you've been all this time...

[She opens the door and it's not Jack.  But it is someone special.  It's her father, Bill.  Jennifer is very happy to see her father.]

Jennifer -- Oh my gosh!  Oh Dad!

[She smiles and hugs her father]

Bill -- Look at you!  Look at you!  You look gorgeous!

Jennifer -- Oh Dad!

Bill -- How is everything?

Jennifer [walks away disappointed] -- Everything's miserable.  There's no groom, Dad.  Jack has disappeared.

Bill -- What?

[Scene ends.  Next scene shows Jack locked in a room in the Wild West Show arena, the same arena where the wedding is to be held.  Jack is trying to pick the lock on the door to break free.  Jack lost his voice, due to his nervousness, just before his wedding.  He was still suffering from laryngitis on the day of his own wedding.  I think some goons trapped him in this room at the arena where his wedding was to take place, thinking he was a "Wild West" rodeo star or whatever.  The goons walk in and Jack, who was leaning down to pick the lock on the door, falls backwards as the door pushes forward]

Goon #1 -- Well.  Well.  Well.  If it ain't Mr. 'Wild Bill' Mahoney!

Goon #2 -- There he is!  The one and only!

Goon #1 -- Yeah, I'll tell ya.  I've been workin' on some flashy moves and I want put on your bad reputation, Wild Man!

Goon #2 -- Sure is lucky we dropped by when we did.

Goon #1 -- Yeah, sure is that.  Well, I got a question -- where exactly was it that you thought you were goin', Mr. 'Wild Bill' Mahoney? Huh?

[Jack looks incredibly confused.  He smiles to play along with these idiots who think he's a rodeo star.  Scene ends.]

[Next scene, Bill is hugging Jennifer, as Carly stands nearby]

Bill -- Oh, honey.  You've already had quite a time with it, haven't you?

Carly [smiling] -- She sure has.

Bill -- Yeah, but from the way I hear, all of this is in character.  And Jack will show up just as the music starts.

[Carly laughs.  Bill smiles.  Jennifer still looks worried.]

Carly -- You know what?  I better go up and get our things together.

Jennifer [tries to look calm and smiles] -- Okay.  I'm fine.  My dad's here.  I have everything.  Thanks.

Carly -- Yeah?  Well, not quite everything.

[Carly holds up a pair of pearl earrings and smiles.  Jennifer looks stunned and her face lights up with a smile.]

Jennifer -- Carly!

Carly [smiles] -- Something borrowed.

Jennifer [really smiling] -- I can't believe you saved them!  You remembered!

Carly -- How could I forget?!  You made me promise every day for a year.

Jennifer -- Those are the first earrings I wore after I got my ears pierced!

Carly -- I know.  You loved them so much.

Jennifer -- You loved them so much!  You would only let me wear them for an hour at a time.

Carly -- Well, I promised you could wear them all day at your wedding.

Jennifer -- And you never break a promise.  You never have.  [Jennifer gives Carly a big hug and smiles]  Oh, thank you so much, Carly.

[Carly says "you're welcome".  She leaves to go upstairs.  Bill is now alone with Jennifer.  Jennifer's face gets that worried look again.  She is not facing Bill, but he talks to his daughter with pride.]

Bill -- Well.  You are quite a young woman, young lady!

Jennifer [turns around to face Bill] -- Hmm?

Bill -- In spite of all the mistakes I made.  And Lord knows I got it wrong more than I got it right...

Jennifer [trying to reassure Bill] -- Oh, Dad....

Bill -- No, let me.  Please.  No matter what I did.... or didn't do, I've always loved you Jennifer.  When I see you today, and see what an incredible, beautiful woman you've become, I .... I maybe don't have the right.  But I'm still proud.  I'm very proud...

Jennifer -- You do have the right, Dad.

Bill -- And look, don't worry.  If this man of yours is the man I think he is, he knows what he's getting.  And he'll be there.  I guarantee you that.  [small smile]  He'll be there.

[Bill walks away and looks kind of worried.  Jennifer asks him if he's okay and he says he's fine.  Then, he takes out a pearl necklace to give to Jennifer]

Bill -- I didn't want to forget.  I brought something for you.  Something old.  [He takes a long pause and looks sad]  From your mother...

[Jennifer looks at it and seems sad too.  At this point in Days' history, Laura was still locked up in a mental institution.  So Jennifer is upset her mother can't be with her on her wedding day.]

Jennifer [smiles, but looks sad]  -- I know.  I remember.

Bill -- I think she'd like you to wear these today.  Please.

[Jennifer leans towards her father and gives him a warm and emotional hug.  Bill puts the necklace on his daughter]

Bill -- I wish she could be here for you today, Jenn.  I know she'd like to be, if she could.

Jennifer [looks very sad]  -- Yeah.  Thank you.

Bill -- Thank me?  For what?

Jennifer -- For being here for me.  And for coming all this way.

Bill -- I wouldn't have missed it for anything in the world.

Jennifer [smiling through her tears] -- I want to go see how it looks.

[Jennifer walks to the mirror to look at her pearl necklace.  Her father is standing next to her with his hand on her shoulders]

Bill -- Absolutely perfect.

Jennifer [nervously] --  Now let's just hope we have a wedding to go along with it, which is just as perfect.

[Scene ends.  Next scene is Jack with the rodeo goons.  He is attempting to sign to them to communicate that he's not "Wild Bill" Mahoney, the rodeo star.  They're completely dumb-founded at what Jack is doing.  It's pretty funny to watch!]

Goon #1 [to the other goon] -- Are you getting any of this?

Goon #2 -- I don't even know what the hell he's doing.

[Goon #1 grabs Jack's shirt and turns him around.  He looks mad and is talking at Jack's face while still holding his shirt.  Jack is desperately trying to disagree with them, through gesturing, while Goon#1 is talking.  But they're not paying attention]

Goon #1  -- Yeah, well I have a pretty good idea what he's doing.  See, I've heard all about you, Mahoney.  He's the [?] New York hot-shot.  Runnin' all over the country making dummies out of us local guys.

Goon #2 -- Is that what's goin' on?  You're playin' with us?

Goon #1 -- Yeah.  He's too good to talk to us!

[the goons shove Jack back and forth as they're saying the next few lines.  All the while, Jack is desperately trying to disagree with them through gesturing.  It's so funny to watch!]

Goon #2 -- Life's too important!

Goon #1 -- Big shot!

Goon #2 -- We're going to have to take him down!

[Jack is still gesturing but Goon #2 stops him]

Goon #2 -- No, no.  Save the 'dumb show', Billy-boy.  We wanna see your stunts do the talking.

Goon #1 [grabbing Jack by the collar.  Jack looks petrified] -- Because that's what we're all about, Mahoney!  See, you're next on the line.  And that's as real as it gets without the skin breakin'...

Goon #2 -- Unless somebody slips.

[Jack looks terrified at the thought of doing stunts.]

Goon #1 [pinching Jack's cheek]  -- Never can tell about accidents.

Goon #2 [also pinching Jack's face and laughs] -- Accidents can happen any time.

[the goons laugh.  Jack punches Goon #1 in the stomach, but the goon doesn't even budge an inch. He just stands there and looks at Jack with a smile.  Jack shakes his hand, in clear pain over slugging his hand into the goon's hard stomach.]

[The goons laugh]

Goon #1 -- Don't tell me that's the best you got?!

Goon #2 -- He's playing with us again.

Goon #1 -- Or maybe you're just getting nervous now that you've seen the competition.

Goon #2 -- Well, there's no getting out of it now, my man.  And there's no way you're getting out of this room until the show.

[Goon #2 swings his fist to pretend that he's about to slug Jack in the stomach.  Jack, in terror, jumps back.  The goons laugh.  Jack laughs with them to play along.]

Goon #1 [as he's closing the door] -- And what a show it's gonna be...

[As soon as the door's shut, Jack runs in terror towards it, trying desperately to get out of the room.  Jack notices a black cowboy hat nearby and places it on his head.  He looks like he has an idea to get out of there. Scene ends.]

[Next scene is Jennifer in her apartment with her father and Carly, who is back in the room.  There's a knock at the door and Jennifer assumes it's Jack.  Bill tells Jennifer he'll get the door because he's going to give Jack a piece of his mind.  But instead, it's Alice, Tom, Mickey and Maggie at the door.  They all walk into the loft and Bill gives each of them a warm hug and greeting.]

[Alice asks Bill about Laura]

Bill -- Yeah.  No change.  Laura... she's fine.  Told her all about today, where I was going.

Maggie -- Well, I know she understood what you were saying.

Alice -- Of course she did.

Maggie [smiling]  -- I know it in my heart.  She's very happy for you today, Jennifer.

Tom -- We're all happy!

[Julie Williams, who is Hope's step-mother and step-sister, I believe (long story) runs in to the loft with a big smile and gives everybody a warm greeting and hug.  Everybody leaves the loft to go to the church.  Alice says she'll be along in a few minutes.  She wants to talk to Jennifer alone]

Alice -- Oh Jennifer...

Jennifer -- Grandma.  You look so beautiful.

Alice -- Yes, I do.  It's because I'm so happy.  And I'm so proud of... my little Jennifer Rose.

Jennifer -- Come on, Grandma.  We gotta go or they'll leave without us.

Alice -- Darling, they're not going any place without us.

[Alice and Jennifer laugh]

Alice -- First, something blue.  [Alice opens up her purse and takes out a blue garter.]  I wore this on my own wedding day.

Jennifer [smiling]  -- Did you really?

Alice -- Really.  It's held up very well over the years, considering how many years we're talking about.

[Alice hands the garter to Jennifer]

Jennifer -- Grandma, thank you.  Now, I have everything.  Except for something new.

Alice -- Oh, well I'm surprised nobody's thought of that.

Jennifer -- I thought of it.  The "something new" is supposed to be the groom.

Alice [smiling] -- Oh!  Then they're shouldn't be any problem.  Now, where is Jack this morning?

[takes Jennifer by the hand and leads her out of the loft]

Jennifer -- Well, that's a good question, Grandma.  It's a very good question.

[Jennifer closes the door to the loft.  Scene ends.]

[Next scene shows Jack all dressed up in black rodeo clothes.  He's playing along with them probably in an attempt to escape.  A man walks in, the rodeo manager, and talks to Jack]

Manager -- Well, I guess those boys were wrong.  You ain't lookin' to get out of doing that show at all.  I'm glad to see that, Wild Bill.

[Jack motions to the man, desperately trying to communicate to him that he's not Wild Bill]

Manager -- Hey, wait a minute.  You ain't been drinking again, have ya?

[Jack motions "no".  While the man is talking, Jack is trying to gesture to him signs that indicate that he's not Wild Bill, but a man that's trying to get out of there to get married.]

Manager -- Well, I guess you just plain antsy.  Well, I still don't understand you show folk.  Ah, speakin' of that, we're gettin' down to close --  curtain time.  Ah, I want you in yer boots.  I'll bring around the horse. [Jack looks shocked and horrified.  He doesn't know how to ride a stunt show horse]  Listen, I wanna see your routine before the crowd starts filing in.  Okay?

[Jack is desperately trying to communicate "no" to the Man.  But the man isn't paying any attention to Jack's gesturing.  He leaves the room.  The door is opened and Jack walks towards the door, thinking now is his big opportunity to escape.  That's when a man suddenly shows up to block Jack's exit.]

Man [mad] -- Alright, who the hell's been playin' around in my dressin' room?  Huh?

[Jack gives a "Me?" look]

Man -- Yeah, you!  What in Durango you think you're doing?!  This is MY dressing room!  Wild Bill Mahoney!

[Jack gives him a thumb's up sign.  Wild Bill looks at Jack and notices his rodeo costume]

Mahoney -- Hey!  That's my costume too.  Who the heck you think you are trying to take my job, huh?!  [Wild Bill grabs Jack's cowboy hat off Jack's head.  Jack looks terrified again and tries to speak, but can't] Answer me!!!

[Mahoney shoves Jack backwards and slams the door shut]

Mahoney -- Alright, pretty boy.  You got three seconds to tell me what you're doing in those pants.  And if I don't like what I hear, the gloves are off.

[Jack can't speak so he desperately attempts to communicate his message through a game of charades.  LOL!  Wild Bill is not amused]

Mahoney -- I'd start talking if I were you, kid!  Stopped the whole stampede once, with one punch!

[Mahoney finally gets fed up and punches Jack in the face and Jack swings around and goes down.  Scene ends.]

[Next scene, Jennifer arrives at the same arena where Jack is, and she looks very worried and mad.  Her father is with her and he asks if she'll be okay.  She says she'll be fine as soon as she knows where Jack is.  Jennifer is worried because the Wild West Show has to have their show after Jack & Jennifer's wedding.  And if Jack is late, then the wedding will be cancelled.  Bill tries to reassure Jennifer that everything will work out.  Jennifer forces a smile but still looks worried.  Bill says he's going to go check on Alice.  Just as he's leaving Carly and Marcus show up to talk to Jennifer.  Marcus is Jack's best man and brings in Jack's tuxedo.  Jennifer thinks that means Jack has arrived but Marcus says he's just placing it in the room so Jack will be able to get dressed as soon as he arrives.  Jennifer asks Marcus if she thinks Jack will be there.  He says yes.  Marcus leaves.  Carly tries to reassure Jennifer that Jack will arrive.  She tells Jennifer that she should start putting on her wedding dress.  Jennifer looks really mad and worried.  She says that Jack better arrive soon or there won't be a wedding because they'll miss their scheduled time due to the Wild West show being held after the wedding.]

[Next scene shows Jack lying on the ground, knocked out from that punch.  Wild Bill is standing over Jack looking at what he did to him.  The Wild West Show manager walks in and yells at the real Wild Bill asking what he did to the fake Wild Bill.  Mahoney tells him that the guy (Jack) was impersonating him.  At first the Wild West show manager doesn't believe him.  But then after he realizes that he's talking to the real Mahoney.  Then the manager asks who the fake Mahoney is.  And the real Mahoney says he has no clue and kicks out the manager.  Then Mahoney stares at Jack, unconscious on the ground and laughs.  Scene ends.]

[Jennifer is now outside wearing her wedding dress.  She's walking with Carly and looks very worried.  She's embarassed that the wedding guests are all sitting there waiting for a wedding to begin, and the groom hasn't even shown up.  The Wild West Show manager walks outside and tells Jennifer that she and her wedding guests have to leave right now.  Jennifer and Carly are confused and tell them to hold on.  Just then, the manager motions for his crew to come out to take away the wedding flowers and decorations from the grounds.  Jennifer and Carly are screaming at him to "wait a minute!"  He doesn't and they begin to take away the flowers.  Jennifer runs after them with Carly and everybody is yelling at the guys.  Jennifer grabs the flowers from the guys]

Jennifer -- HEY!  HEY!  THIS IS MY WEDDING!!  AND THESE ARE MY FLOWERS!!

Goon [laughing] -- Wait!  What are you gonna do about it?  Break me with a thorn?  ha!ha!

[Carly laughs sarcastically]

Jennifer -- Alright, I'm gonna give you one more chance.  Either you leave my wedding, or I'll...

Another goon -- Or what?

Goon -- Yeah, what are you going to do about it?

Jennifer -- What am I gonna do?  What am I gonna do?

Alice -- I'll show you what we're gonna do...

[Alice, (Yes! Grandma Horton!) punches the goon in the face and he falls right down to the ground.  LOL!  Jennifer screams.  The stunt show manager leans down to look at the condition of the goon and Jennifer pushes her leg forward and knocks the manager backwards.  The crowd who is there for the wedding goes wild and claps and cheers for Jennifer and Alice.  Carly, Jennifer and Alice are thrilled with themselves.  They give each other 'high fives' and smile and clap along with the crowd.  Jennifer hugs her grandma and smiles.  Just then, one of the goons gets up and grabs Jennifer and lifts her up from behind to take her away.  She starts screaming.  The crowd begins to boo.  Carly runs after the goon to stop him.  The goon seats Jennifer on a long wooden pole and Carly jumps on top of the goon's back to fight back.   Alice throws a chair over another of the goons to knock him out.  The goon is leaning on that pole that Jennifer is still sitting on, so that when he gets hit by Alice, the pole gets raised up towards the sky.  Jennifer, who is still sitting on the pole, goes flying in the air, still holding on to the pole for dear life.  The goon sees Jennifer flying up in the sky, hanging on to the pole and swings the pole from side to side while Jennifer is holding on to it.  She's screaming to her grandmother to help her.  Alice goes, "Jennifer, come down dear." LOL!  How can she when the man is swinging on that wooden pole? ha!ha!  Just then, Jack comes riding out on one of the horses and looks half-conscious.  Jennifer notices him on the horse and screams to him.  Jack falls right off the horse onto the ground.  Scene ends.]
