9/5/00: Moving in. (Page 1)

Moving day was this past Sunday. It's been a day I've been looking forward to for awhile. I've been ready for a fresh start for a bit now, being able to let go of what's past and start off fresh. I'm the type of person who likes that kind of change now and then, and fortunately, college provided it.

So far I've avoided many of the curses (I hope) that you always hear about in the horror stories: I've got a really nice roommate, who is a lot like me in many ways except for a few details which will prove very useful (more on that later), I haven't had any trouble meeting people already and have already had two nights past 2 AM (last night I was up until 4:30 in the morning), and I am not feeling homesick (again with the change thing).

What's more interesting is the ratio of students here this year. The freshman class is about 65% girls. So, obviously, I would meet more girls than guys here, and have. But in my case almost all the people I've been hanging out with thus far have been girls, and mostly all from one floor of one of the dorms here. The floor is actually the substance-free floor, but they are all very nice people who are easy to get along with and are a lot of fun. They're great to chat with; we talked about everything from abortion to politics last night, for instance.

The college has been trying to provide their form of entertainment as well. As you can imagine, the good clean fun isn't something many college students went for, but my roommate and I went down to check it out and ran into other people, including one person I met who lived a minute away from my house and I never had even met her (I don't think, unless I did in Middle School). On Sunday night they had this ventriloquist act which was amusing for the way he did it, and then on Monday night they had a mind reading act of sorts which was actually quite impressive (although we've all sort of put our heads together and have figured out at least one or two of the tricks he performed already... it's not difficult if you think step by step how he did it).
