Synopsis

Anne and Gilbert

It is 1913, and Anne Shirley (Megan Follows) returns to Avonlea for the first time since Marilla Cuthbert's death. Gilbert Blythe (Jonathan Crombie)has been offered a staff position at a hospital in New York, and persuades Anne to join him as he has arranged a position for her at a large publishing house. Unfortunately, Big City life isn’t what they expected and Anne convinces Gilbert to return to Avonlea. The couple is marrried, but they are soon catapulted into the middle of wartime society. Gilbert feels the pressure from the community and enlists as a medical officer. When Gilbert is listed as missing in action, Anne sets off on a cross-Atlantic search for him...

MY REVIEW

Overall, the production is quite good. We (the audience) get to see Anne's old haunts and most of her close aquaintances. In fact, Diana Wright (Anne's childhood friend) and Fred Wright get to play significant roles in the production. The only thing that I truly missed was Anne's youthful zeal. She is still Anne, just a bit older and a lot more responsible. As for the storyline, it tends to meander and Anne really gets around: New York, PEI, several parts of Europe. She's even dressed as a nun :-) for several scenes. I'll let you discover the rest.

Anne of Green Gables

Length: 197 Minutes

Cast

At the turn of the century on Prince Edward Island, Matthew Cuthbert and his sister Marilla decide to take on an orphan boy as help for their farm. But they get an unexpected jolt when they're mistakenly sent a girl instead: Anne Shirley. Anne's a dreamer with an unusual point of view, far removed from Marilla's pragmatic ways, and it's only on trial that Marilla agrees to keep Anne...if Anne can keep out of trouble, only Anne has a positive genius for it. As Anne falls into a series of scrapes (and off a roof), makes a bosom friend, searches (and finds) several kindred spirits, Matthew and Marilla discover that their lives have become a great deal richer, now that Anne is at Green Gables.
