A Breath of Fresh Air

Lake County residents, visitors and people relocating to this area experience a healthy lifestyle benefit that cannot be found in any other area of the state.  Lake County has the cleanest air in California and some of the best tasing water (there are several bottled water companies in Lake County).

The climate is mild year-round with four seasons, although you may see snow in higher elevations, with winter temperatures of 32 to 60 degrees and summer temperatures of 57 to 95 degrees with a few days over 100 and average humidity of 30 to 50%.  Average rainfall varies between 25 inches in the Clear Lake Basin with an elevation of 1,326 feet to 60 inches on Cobb Mountain with an elevation of 4,722 feet.   The highest peak in Lake County is Snow Mountain at 7,056 feet in the wilderness area of the Mendicino National Forest.

The local economy is based on agriculture, tourism, and the geothermal and gold mining industries.  Lake County is a premium wine-growing area and is famous for it's pears and walnuts.

The population of Lake County is over 55,600 and it is a popular retirement area with nearly 35% of the population over 60.  It is also one of the fastest growing areas in California with afordable housing and the county population has a median age of 40.

Check the Map for information on getting to Lake County.

Natural Wonders

Clear Lake is the largest natural lake in the state of California and it and Blue Lakes, along with the area's other lakes, are major destinations for tourism.  The Geysers is the largest geothermal field in the world and Gold mining is active in the Lower Lake area at the Homestake Mine.  "Lake County diamonds" are there for the picking up and volcanic Mount Konocti and the Tule Elk are just some of nature's wonders here in Lake County.

Entertainment & Recreation

Entertainment and Recreational offerings in Lake County include resorts, casinos, auto racing and skydiving.  There is also an Observatory and Planetarium and several museums in Lakeport, Lower Lake and Hidden Valley.

Outdoor Recreation

There are a great many outdoor activities available year-round in Lake County.  Some of these include bicycling, birdwatching, camping, golfing, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, offroading, and rockhounding.  All forms of watersports including boating and fishing are enjoyed on Lake County's many lakes.

Lake County Wineries

Lake County wineries have been winning awards at international competitions since the eraly 1900's and have won more awards per acre of vineyard than any other area in the world.  We have a greater difference in temperature between the summer's high and winter's low than any other area of California's North Coast which along with our altitude, Clear Lake's stabilization of temperature and humidity, and Lake County's light volcanic and enriched alluvial soils produce an ideal climate for growing wine-grapes.
