Clear Lake is the largest
natural lake in the state of California and it and
Blue Lakes, along with the area's other lakes,
are major destinations for tourism. The
Geysers is the largest geothermal field in the world and Gold mining
is active in the Lower Lake area at the
Homestake Mine. "Lake County diamonds"
are there for the picking up and volcanic Mount
Konocti and the Tule Elk are just some
of nature's wonders here in Lake County.
Entertainment and
Recreational offerings in Lake County include
resorts,
casinos, auto
racing and skydiving. There is
also an Observatory and Planetarium and several
museums in Lakeport,
Lower Lake and
Hidden Valley.
There are a great many outdoor
activities available year-round in Lake County. Some of these
include bicycling, birdwatching, camping,
golfing, hiking, hunting, horseback riding,
offroading, and rockhounding. All forms of
watersports including boating and
fishing are enjoyed on Lake County's many lakes.
Lake County wineries
have been winning awards at international competitions since the eraly 1900's
and have won more awards per acre of vineyard than any other area in the
world. We have a greater difference in temperature between the summer's
high and winter's low than any other area of California's North Coast which
along with our altitude, Clear Lake's stabilization of temperature and humidity,
and Lake County's light volcanic and enriched alluvial soils produce an ideal
climate for growing wine-grapes.
