THE FLORIDA KEYS
Key Largo and Key West
Music is Bob Marley's Stir It Up
Three of my friends and I decided we needed a girls' trip in May of 1990 and made plans to go explore The Florida Keys. We stopped off in Key Largo for a day since we had a free room (thanks to one of my friend's aunts who owned a small apartment there) but there are lots of accomodations in the area if you aren't as lucky as we were. Come along with us - you'll enjoy the trip as much as we did!
First stop - Key Largo and John Pennekamp State Park. Here we are, ready for the snorkel trip out to the reef. They made us try on our masks to make sure they fit and, since we looked so cute, we had someone take our picture
It was a little hazy but we managed to get some pictures underneath the water. You can see the pictures we wish we could have gotten by going to the Coral Reef picture site!
We also had a chance after the reef trip to explore John Pennekamp Park, walk the boardwalk through the natural flora and fauna, and have some ice cream at the gift shop. We had dinner at a nearby restaurant and crashed at the apartment to rest before heading to Key West the next day. All in all, we gave the Key Largo experience two thumbs up ..... or maybe it was two fingers??
The next day was rainy as we made our way down the highway towards Key West. We stopped at a donut shop on the way and, while there, it started to pour. The owner gave us garbage bags to put over our heads so we wouldn't be drenched by the time we got to our car. Hmmmm, we wore masks one day, bags the next .... do you think we were trying to travel incognito??
