Esham - "Helterskkkelter"

Date: 11/30/00

------------Hellterskkkelter is the third EP released from the legendary Detroit rapper, Esham. Being released in 1992 it has the feel of his other work of the same period, most notably “Judgement Day Vol.I & II”. This was released to get his fans happy before his next full length album, “KKKill The Fetus”, was released in 1993. As to no surprise, Esham reminds everyone why he is the king of Detroit.
___“Hellterskkkelter” opens this 4 song cd and has Esham kicking that wicket shit again. The standard excellent lyrics and beat make this a good track but not one of his best. Next is “Rocks Off” which is a humorous sex song. But after hearing the same song on “Detroit Dogshit” with an updated beat and clearer vocals this track pales in comparison. Once again a good track but after hearing the remake its a little disappointing. “Be-4” is a sort song, only 1 minute and 30 seconds, and has an old school beat to it. Once again nothing special and is the worst out of the 4 songs. “Devil’s Night” is the best song on group with Esham kicking tight rhymes to a dark beat. This definitely has a dark feel to it and many Esham fans have come to love songs like this.
___Being an EP, with only 4 songs there isn’t much to choose from. But aside from that fact Esham provides us with a nice little piece of work that doesn’t break new grounds but is far from his worst. With no plans to re-release this one, this will surely become a collector’s item as time goes by. All those hardcore Esham fans should check this one out before they start disappearing off the shelves. But if you don’t fit the description of a die-hard fan than you might want to pass this one up.
