Never - "Show No Mercy"

Date: 6/26/00

------------Never is a member of Lowdown, not to mention the owner of Lowtown Records/Lowdown Productions, out of Merced Califonia. This is his debut album, but he has had plenty of experience with Darkroom Familia, producing tihs cd completely. Because of this, his cd doesn't lack anything present in other Darkroom releases. "Show No mercy" is 18 tracks with no intros, so it is well over 70 minutes long.
___The beats stay consistent throughout the cd, which starts with "Mackin 2000". In classic DRF style, this track talks about the hoes in the game and mackin'. A few songs later, one of the best DRF songs I have heard up to now, "Valley Allstars" features 9 other rappers, including YGD, Lil Wyno, A.L.G., and Hurrikane J, just to name a few. It is about 5 and half minutes long and everyone connects tightly. One of the odd things about his and a few of the other tracks on this cd is that the beats are rock and roll or dance music beats. The lyrics are awesome through these and the other songs. Even though this is a departure from previous DRF cds, the rock and roll tracks end up being one of the best just because of the way the classic West Coast lyrics interact with the beats. Some of these other tracks include "Back 2 Back" (where they justifiably dis Bad Boy), "This Iz How We Roll", and "It Takes Four". Other awesome tracks that have the recognizable DRF beats and feel to them are "900 Wordz" (an awesome track where the fast paced lyrics are complimented by tight beats), "Swollen Up Drippin", and "The Deuce-O-Nine". The rest of the subject material on this cd is about the player haters in the rap game and the shit that goes down on West Coast. As is the common trait with all DRF cds, Spanish influence is detectable and appreciated.
___Never connects succesfully with this cd. It is distributed by DogDay Records (with which Never is signed to) and features a wide array of some of the tightest rappers on the West Coast with some of the tightest beats around. This cd might be easy to find on the West Coast and other places where you would think that it's not, such as South Carolina. Even if you remotely like Darkroom Familia, buy "Show No Mercy" because you won't be dissapointed.
