Bootleg - "Death Before Dishonesty"

------------This is the first solo cd coming from the Dayton Family. Shoestring also released a cd after this one. The last thing coming from the Dayton Family was “F.B.I.” and its good to see they are still making music. But on the cover it says Bootleg is formerly of the Dayton Family. I don’t know what that’s supposed to mean since Bootleg is on Shoestring’s solo cd and in an interview Shoestring said they are still together. Anyway lets hope Dayton Family is still together because both solo cds are tight.
___This cd sure has the Dayton Family sound. Maybe not as much as Shoestrings but it will appeal to fans of their older stuff. The beats are really good on this cd. This is some shit that you can ride too. There is a good variety of beats, ranging from hard to some more soft stuff. And Bootlegs lyrics, man he has sure improved. He was always good on the Dayton Family cds but he has brought it up a notch. He has really improved his flow as he raps faster now. Bootleg also doesn’t lack ability on the mic as songs like “Celebrate” and “Set Up” show how he can tell a story. On “No Future” he hooked up with MC Breed to make a more radio oriented song but its still tight as fuck. But don’t think Bootleg has sold out because he still comes with heat. Songs such as “If I Die”, “Bad Guy”, and “Sideways” are classic Flint shit and is straight street. There are some songs on here that I don’t like. “Fantasies” is not a track you would expect to hear from Bootleg and really doesn’t work with his style. And I didn’t care for “Run For Cover”.But for all the bad songs there are tracks like “Mama” that make you forget about them. “Mama” is one of the funniest songs out there as Bootleg brags about fucking his girlfriends mom. This will guarantee to have you cracking up while listening.
___For Bootleg’s first solo effort he really does well. He shows that he can hold it on his own if he needs to. I think of the two solo cds coming from the Dayton Family members this one is the better of the two. Not to say that Shoestring’s is bad but Bootleg really came correct. Anyone who enjoyed the Dayton Family’s other cds is going to like this one. After hearing this I can’t wait for the next Dayton Family cd. So if you need some more of that Flint shit or need something to bump while riding then this is the cd for you.
