Jake the Flake - "Jake The Flake & The Flint Thugs"

------------If you are familiar with Flint rap such as Dayton Family, then you have probably heard of Jake the Flake. Making appearances on other projects, such as the Dayton Family’s “F.B.I.”, he also has numerous solo releases under his belt. All his cds are hard to find, and this one is no exception. Trust me, its worth the time to look for this cd because its one of the best cds to come out of Flint.
____If you have heard other Flint town releases then you can expect the same sound and subject matter, mass killing and drug dealings. But what makes this cd stand out from other Flint town releases is Jake the Flakes rapping skills, which are nothing short of awesome. Not only does Jake the Flake have a great flow, but has great lyrics to match it. He is the complete package you could say. Just listen to the first song “Hold Yo Nuts” and instantly you will be blown away by his talent. Other songs such as “My Own Boss” and “Them Niggaz Lucky” further showcase his talent as solo artist. When Jake the Flake isn’t by himself, his fellow Flint rappers show up. “F.A.N.G.” features Shoestring and D.F.C., is a tight posse cut, as all the boys from Flint rip this one up. “Money, Mack, Murder” and “Good Fella’s” both feature Bone Skanless and are two of the tightest songs on the cd. Not only does Jake The Flake tear these tracks up, but Bone Skanless matches his performance with his tight lyrics of his own. “Good Fella’s” is my personal favorite, with a great beat and tight performances from both Jake the Flake and Bone Skanless. Also sound clips from the movie Good Fella’s only enhance the mood of the song as they fit perfectly.
___If you are looking for some Flint gangsta shit, then this is your cd. Not only is Jake the Flake the best rapper to come out of Flint, but probably one of the best rappers out there. The only drawback to some may be the fact that just about every song, except “Chromotose in the Brain”, deals with drug dealing in some form. Also, some of the hooks are really weak, partly due to the fact that the same woman appears on about 5 different songs singing the hook. Minor, but still takes away from the cd. Another thing that doesn’t really take away from the cd, but could have been done different, is the fact that 2 of the songs don’t feature Jake the Flake at all. Not to say these songs are bad, as they are not, but I would have much rather had two solo Jake the Flake songs instead, or at the very least, had Jake the Flake appear on these songs. But once again, nothing to seriously hurt the cd. So if you have heard Jake the Flake on other projects, or you just are interested on hearing something different, try to find this cd as its a good purchase.
