------------This is the first release from the duo hailing from Flint Michigan. Most of the rapping is down by Shoestring and Bootleg, though there are some other rappers on this cd. This definitely shows the potential that the group posses as this being their first cd. Their newer stuff may be better don’t think this cd can’t hold its own as it is still that Dayton sound.
___As with all Dayton Family cds the subject matter is pure gangsta, with drug dealing being a reoccurring theme throughout the whole cd. As a group, Bootleg and Shoestring both posse great lyrics and work good together. Unfortunately the beats aren’t as good as the lyrics are. The beats range from ok to excellent, with many being really good while some others lack. Some people may not like the beats as they are a little different compared to the typical west or east cost beats. I would recommend that you take a listen to the cd before you buy as the beats may not be what you are looking for.
___Though the back says there is 14 tracks, in reality there is only 12 as two of them are just sound effects and don’t really belong on the cd as they are pointless. But of the 12 tracks most of them are banging. Songs like “Smoke For Free”, “Nutty Niggaz”, and “Flint Niggazz Don’t Play” combine both great lyrics and beats. But by far the highlight of the cd is “Flint Town”. With one of the best beats I have ever heard and with Bootleg and Shoestring spitting rhymes back and forth make just a awesome track. This is one song that you can ride too all night long.
___For being their first cd Bootleg and Shoestring really show what to expect from them in the future. One thing that I was disappointed in was the hooks. Most of the hooks are unoriginal as a word or two are just repeated. I know they could have done better. And as I mentioned before some of the beats are a let down. But any fan of the Dayton Family will not doubt enjoy this. Though “F.B.I.” was a more complete cd don’t overlook this cd as it holds its own.
