Doomsday - "Filthy"

------------This is the third cd from the group residing in Las Vegas. The group consist of three members: Eklypss, Pit, and Playboy 7. If you haven’t heard them before you might confuse them as a group from Sacramento as they sound similar to Brotha Lynch Hung and have a cd released on Black Market Records. As with most Doomsday cds it is full of violent lyrics and murderous theme’s. But unlike other Doomsday releases there is no mood side, which is more of a softer sound, in fact of the 13 tracks only 2 have that mood sound.
___As with every Doomsday cd it seems that each one keeps on getting better and this one is no exception. Upon hearing the first few tracks you know just how tight this cd is. This is also their most evil effort yet. You notice that all three members have improved on their lyrics from the last release. Eklypss, Pit, and Playboy 7 are all above average rappers but I wouldn’t go as far as saying they are on the same level as Brotha Lynch Hung but that’s ok. With all three have distinctive styles, Pit with his “I don’t give a fuck” type of attitude, to Playboy 7’s more laid back pimp style, and Eklypss’s scratchy straight murder on the mic style you have a good variety as none of them sound the same. The beats are the best yet coming from a Doomsday release. Not one beat on this cd is weak at all.
___With only 13 tracks its a good thing all of them are tight. There isn’t one weak track. Even the mood songs are good as “99” and Playboy 7’s “Sip N’ Slide” show the laid back said of Doomsday. But songs like “Warfare”, “Rip Shit”, and “Day Of The Dead” remind you just wait Doomsday is all about and that’s pure gangsta shit. Some of my personal favorites are “Redrum” and “4 Minute Murder”. “Redrum” is different from all the others as it has a heavy metal feel and could easily be mistaken as something other than rap. But since it is so original and has not only a great beat and lyrics it succeeds. “4 Minute Murder” is a solo song by Eklypss and it’s probably the tightest song on the cd. I could listen to that song over and over as Eklypss raps about how to murder someone and get away with it. This song will leave you just waiting for a solo cd from Eklypss.
___This is by far the best release from Doomsday yet. With everything going for it with dope beats and lyrics there is nothing not to like. One of the best cds of 1999 and also one of the best coming out of the west in a long time. Though Doomsday may not be very well known if they keep on releasing cds as good as this eventually they will get the recognition they deserve. So all you Brotha Lynch Hung fans out there who want to hear some evil shit then check this cd out as you won’t be disappointed.
