------------The Luniz are two guys, Yukmouth and Knumskull, from Oakland. This was their first cd put out back in 1995. They are self-described as the "crazy comical wild side of gangsta hiphop non playa' hata's" (quote taken from their slang dictionary inside the cover. Some more examples are "Bootsy: hella weak" and "Flashin: off stupid shit"). They show this through their rhymes and the skits within the tracks. As for "Operation Stackola" itself, it has 16 tracks (1 intro, 1 outro, and 1 "reprise" of a song already on the cd). Most of the tracks are at least 4 minutes long, so you get a good deal of listening material. This leaves 12 tracks that are what you would expect coming out of 1995 Oakland.
___This cd starts off with an intro that foreshadows the rest of the cd, more or less. With the scratching and such, it feels old school from the start. Next is "Put the Lead on Ya'" featuring Dru Down. This track is pretty tight and sets the tone and the feel for the cd. From there on, all songs vibrate the same type of beats, that mellow, kinda laid-back bass line and comprable rhyming from both Knumskull and Yuk. Other rappers added to the mix are Richie Rich, Knucklehead, Eclipse, and Shock G. They all complement the cd with their rhymes and interact well with the tight chemistry that the Luniz have going for them.
___The subject matter that most of the songs deal with are playa hatas, hos & the like, and just comical stories about the Luniz themselves. The tracks that best represent these subjects, repectively, are "Playa Hata" (quite possibly the best cut off of this cd), "Broke Hos", and "900 Blame A Nigga" (the other contender for the number one song). Another quality song is "5150" that starts out with a little skit.
___"Operation Stackola" is a a decent cd. It is what you would expect from a cd coming out of 95, an old school sound. The Where the Luniz break away is in the way they deliver it and its pretty funny at times (best quote from the cd is when, out of nowhere, a weird voice says "Your cocaine; Give it to me; NOW.") Its comical qualities blend in nicely with the raps to create a good cd. If you are looking for something that has a old school feeling to it with some laidback beats, not-so-hard lyrics, but smooth flows, "Operation Stackola" is for you.
