IRC

The IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is another part of the Internet, just like the WWW, the FTP, the News, the E-mail. On IRC, you can chat using your keyboard with people that are also using IRC. Unlike the e-mail, that you send a message and may wait several days to receive a reply, the IRC is real-time! It's just like these Web chats, but with much more advantages: It's quicker and more practical, and it has plenty of commands and features that lets you chat better.

The best way of learning about IRC is using it.

The only problem is that you may become an IRC addict, just like me and some friends of mine
who can't turn off the computer! Enjoy it! By IRC we can meet people from anywhere in the
world.

You can find me on the channel called #Balzac at the IRC BrasNET Network (irc.brasnet.org) , my nickname is caramelos.

*** Click here to visit Official HP of the IRC BrasNET Network.

Don't miss the   Homepage.

All the basics to start using IRC:

Server: With the server you can connect to an IRC network. Try one of these servers: irc.fortalnet.com.br , irc.unisys.com.br , irc.correionet.com.br , irc.dialdata.com.br , irc.tvfilme.com.br , irc.netwaybbs.com.br ,   irc.buriti.com.br , irc.cnet.com.br , irc.bahianet.com.br or irc.brasnet.org .
*** Click here to see the relationship of servers of the IRC BrasNET Network.

Channel: After connecting to a server, you must enter a channel to start chatting. Type /join #channel_name to choose a channel. It doesn't matter the server, the place where you can find more brazilian people is on the #brasil of that server. If you're on Brasnet, try typing /join #Balzac , you may find me there.

PVT (private): On this windows, that can be opened by double-clicking one person's nick on
a channel, you can talk privately, just you and the other person see what you're typing. This
is one of the advantages of IRC when compared to the Web chat rooms. Here you can chat without being "spyed".

Now you can go on until you master IRC. You will certainly find someone to help you.

To use IRC, be prepared for anything!!!  :{)

mIRC Scripts:

A script is mIRC that someone has customized. scripts are the .ini files that come with mIRC, just they have been edited to perform specific commands. There are thousands of scripts out there. scripts can do commands automatically or by right clicking. They are very complicated, but anyone can learn how to write one. Scripts simply take advantage of the alias, popup, and remote sections of mIRC.

Uses of Scripts:

Scripts have many uses. They prevent people from flooding you off of the net and they also help protect channels you are on. They protect other ops, and friends. Good scripts keep you from getting flooded or disconnected through other flooding or war techniques.

How to install a script:

Now that you have downloaded a script, what do you do? If it is zipped up, use Winzip or another unzip program to unzip it. After it unzips, it may run an installation program. Just follow the directions and install it wherever you want it. Now, double click on the mIRC file located in the script directory. Look up at the menu bar. There should be an extra item there. Try connecting and then right click in a channel, the status window, a query box, and the nicknames list in the channel window. A list of options comes up. Cool huh? Most scripts come with a readme file that tells you of most of their options, but some do not.

Writing your own script:

Before you even think of writing a script, make sure that it's not already written...it would be a waste of time to rewrite a script. Also, make sure you have some new features in your script...I'd say about 80% of scripts have NO new features. Are you going to use this script? Do you actually need a script? Are you on the internet a lot? The easiest way to learn how to write a script is by studying others. Print out the .ini files (aliases, popups, remote) and put them in the bathroom to read every now. Also read the mIRC Commands they should also help you along your way.
