You cannot take everything with you on your trip. Every country has restrictions for importing and exporting goods like tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, perfumes, gifts, money and even food and many other items.

Albania

Tobacco, alcohol and perfume

A reasonable quantity of tobacco products, alcoholic beverages and perfumes for personal use may be taken into Albania without incurring customs duty.

Currency

The import and export of local currency is prohibited. Foreign currency must be declared on arrival. The export of foreign currency is limited to the amount declared.

Restrictions

Import of firearms, ammunition, narcotics, drugs and goods jeopardizing the protection of public order and social security is prohibited.
Special export permits are required for precious metals, antique coins and scrolls, antiques, national costumes of artistic or folkloristic value, books and works of art which form part of the national heritage and culture.

Bosnia and Herzegowina

Tobacco, alcohol, perfume and gifts

200 cigarettes or 20 cigars or 200g of tobacco, 1 litre of alcohol, 1 bottle of perfume and gifts to the value of DM 150 may be imported without incurring customs duty

Bulgaria

Tobacco, alcohol, perfume and gifts

Persons over 18 years of age may take into Bulgaria without paying customs duty 250 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco, 1 litre of spirits and 2 litres of wine, 100g of perfume and gifts to the value of 3000 Leva.

Currency

The import and export of local currency is prohibited. Foreign currency must be declared on arrival. The export of foreign currency is limited to the amount declared on arrival.

Other items

Objects and foodstuffs intended for personal use during the stay may be imported without restrictions. A receipt of expensive objects (portable television and radio, film and video camera, binocular, etc.) may be asked at the Customs.

Croatia

Tobacco, alcohol and perfume

200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco, 1 litre of wine and 1 litre of spirits, 1/4 litre of eau de cologne and 1 bottle of perfume can be taken into Croatia without incurring customs duty.

Currency

The import and export of local currency is limited to 2000 Kuna. The import and export of foreign currency is unrestricted.

Hungary

Tobacco, alcohol and gifts

Persons over 18 years of age may take 250 cigarettes or an equivalent amount of tobacco, 2 litres of wine, 1 liter of spirits and gifts up to a value of 8,000 Forint and 500 Forint at a second visit in the same year.

Macedonia

Tobacco, alcohol and gifts

You may import 1 box of cigarettes, 1 bottle of alcohol and gifts to the value of 60 Macedonian Denar

Currency

There are no restrictions on the import and export of local currency. Foreign currency in amounts over DM 300 must be declared. Export of foreign currency is limited to the amount declared on arrival.

Moldova

Tobacco, alcohol and perfume

Persons over 18 years of age may import 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500g of tobacco products, 2 litres of alcoholic beverages and a reasonable quantity of perfume for personal use.

Currency

The import and export of local currency is prohibited, except for residents of Moldova who may import up to the amount they declared on departure and export up to the equivalent of Rb 500,000 if declared on departure.
The import and export of foreign currency is limited to the amount declared on arrival, except for residents who may only export the equivalent of up to US$ 500, provided it is declared on departure.

Other items

Goods for personal use may be imported without restrictions up to the amount of US$ 500.

Romania

Tobacco, alcohol, perfume and gifts

You may import 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 200g of tobacco, 2 litres of spirits, 4 litres of wine and 4 litres of beer and gifts up to a value of US$ 1000 without incurring customs duty.

Currency

The import of local currency is prohibited (unless in possession of a special license). The export of local currency is limited to 5000 Lei per person. There are no restrictions on the import of foreign currency, providing it is declared. Foreigners may export up to the amount declared on arrival.

Restrictions

Import of ammunition, explosives, narcotics and pornographic material is prohibited.
It is prohibited to export articles of cultural, historical or artistic value.

Other items

Valuable goods (such as jewellery, art and electrical items) should be declared on entry. Endorsed customs declarations must be kept, as they must be shown on leaving the country.
You may import up to 200g of coffee and 200g of cocoa and it is prohibited to import uncanned meats, animal and dairy products. You may not export foodstuffs.

Slovenia

Tobacco, alcohol, perfume and gifts

You may import 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250g of tobacco, 2 litres of wine, 1 litre of spirits, 50ml perfume, 250ml of eau de toilette and gifts up to a value of US$ 100.

Currency

The import and export of local currency is limited to 300,000 Tolar. There is unrestricted import and export of foreign currency subject to amount declared on arrival.

Turkey

Tobacco, alcohol, perfume and gifts

You may take 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 200g of tobacco and 200 cigarette papers or 50g chewing tobacco or 200g of pipe tobacco or 200g snuff tobacco, 5 litre bottles or 7 70cc bottles of wine and/or spirits, 5 bottles (up to 120ml) of perfume and gifts up to a value of DM 500
A further 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars or 500g of tobacco may be imported if purchased on arrival at a duty-free shop.

Currency

There are no restrictions on the import of local or foreign currency, though visitors bringing in a large amount of foreign currency should obtain a written declaration from the Turkish authorities. No more than the equivalent of US$ 5000 in local currency may be exported. Foreign currency may be exported up to US$ 5000, but no more than the amount imported and declared.

Other items

Very specific amounts and categories of personal belongings may be imported duty free, according to a list available from the Turkish Embassy, Financial and Customs Counsellor's Office. Most tourists are unlikely to find themselves exceeding these allowances. Some examples of imposed limits on personal belongings on the list are: one camera and five rolls of film, one pocket calculator, one table clock, one manual typewriter (duty must be paid on electric and electronic models), one video camera and five blank cassettes, one 8mm cine-camera and ten blank cassettes, one portable radio or radio/cassette (speakers should not be detachable), five LPs or compact discs (no two the same) and one portable computer with no more than 64 Kb of memory.

Restrictions

More than two sets of playing cards, narcotics, sharp implements and weapons are prohibited to import.
The export of souvenirs such as carpets is subject to customs regulations regarding age and value. The export of antiques is forbidden, according to a list available from the Turkish Embassy, Financial and Customs Counsellor's Office. Minerals may only be exported under licence from the General Directorate of Mining Exploration & Research.
