They took my idea!!! I wanted to do a site like this for Thai people, since they are so crazy about looking at photos of good looking people. In a few short weeks, Am I Hot or Not? has become one of the hottest sites on the Internet. The site features photographs of ordinary people and a voting mechanism for rating attractiveness on a scale of one to 10 -- 10 is hot, one is not. 'Am I Hot or Not?' Is Red Hot

Thai sensitivityMore than 110,000 people died as slave laborers building the Thai-Burma "Death Railway" during World War II. At one point along the 260-mile railway stands a certain bridge, immortalized in the 1957 movie, Bridge on the River Kwai. Thailand's government decided this would be a swell place to throw a two-week carnival -- complete with rides, discos and rock concerts -- to "commemorate" the start of the Allied bombing campaign against the bridge in November 1944. While the Thais defended the idea of a glitzy (and lucrative) carnival, others were not amused, including Takashi Nagase, 83, a former Japanese Army military policeman, who has made more than 100 visits of atonement to the River Kwai. More reasons China scares me....A senior Chinese military leader said last month that a cross-strait war was inevitable in the next five years. "During the period of the 10th five-year plan, it is certain that war will break out in the Taiwan strait," said Zhang Wannian, vice chairman of the central military commission, at an equipment conference in southern China's Guangzhou city last month, according to the Oriental Daily News. China's next five-year economic plan starts in 2001. In order to guarantee a victory, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) would be the first to strike, Zhang said.

Soldiers in for toilet revolution No more squatting in the modern army A deep-seated army tradition is to end. Squat toilets will soon become an uncomfortable memory in the barracks.
They will be replaced with sit-down flush toilets, which an army source claimed to be healthier.
"Western-style toilets are on the way in. Soldiers won't have to squat down any more during a call of nature. Squatting causes inconvenience and it is not healthy," the source said.
Proper training will be given to soldiers when sit-down toilets are in place, to extend the life of the new facilities, the source said.

Imagine Bluetooth enabled pens. Whenever you write something, it wirelessly transmits what you have written to you mobile device or to your computer. Your handwriting is then stored in sheets with time codes and you are able to call up your random scribblings at any time.
Imagine Bluetooth enabled spray paint cans, where taggers can tag something in the physical world, and have it broadcasted live on the web. Users could view a site where tags takeplace and are created before their eyes. ..when we stumbled upon the Anoto booth, we remembered what excited us about Bluetooth technology way back when. Anoto has developed a Bluetooth-equipped pen that allows users to send information from paper directly to devices such as PCs and fax machines. The company has struck deals with stationery companies including Filofax, Franklin Covey, 3M, and Mead, all of whom are expected to release products that contain an imperceptible pattern that is picked up by the Anoto pen.MSNBC Interactive

Jihad is not a declaration of war against other religions and certainly not against Christians and Jews as some media and political circles want it to be perceived. Islam does not fight other religions. Christians and Jews are considered as fellow inheritors of The Abrahamic traditions by Muslims, worshipping the same God and following the tradition of Abraham. "You shall prepare for them all the power you can muster, and all the equipment you can mobilize, that you may frighten the enemies of GOD, your enemies, as well as others who are not known to you; GOD knows them. Whatever you spend in the cause of GOD will be repaid to you generously, without the least injustice. If they resort to peace, so shall you, and put your trust in GOD. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient." (8:60-61) Quran Jihad

Partnerships with online ad agencies and media buying companies guarantee good placement and reach.

Nationalism in Thailand. For me this is the difference between isolation and globalization: I have to choices where to buy groceries... the little mom and pop Chinese store, with a limited selection, inconvenient hours, the need for price haggling and usually bad attitudes--- or --- 7-Eleven, which is clean, open 24 hours, clearly marked and efficient. Maybe you don't like the big ugly 7-11 sign, but I think that is a small price to pay for the services offered. Let these traditional businesses change... or die.But nationalism still needs an enemy, an Other. New nationalism's enemy is not defined by race, colour or creed, but by power. The demon is international capital, which has taken advantage of the crisis to invade Thailand on an unprecedented scale. Behind this demon stands America, orchestrating the economy on a global scale. Together they are phai khao, "the white peril". They are helped by Thai politicians who follow foreign advice and allow multinational capital to "dominate the country". The new nationalism is not racism but victimism. The key principle, argue the new nationalists, is that the interests of the people bundled together in this nation must be paramount. The advanced countries pursue their own national self-interest, but label it as globalisation. If other countries accept this, they will be dominated, disadvantaged, and ultimately absorbed. This new nationalism, its protagonists claim, is not aggressive and expansionist like the old kind, but defensive. Nor is it anti-globalisation in the long term. Less advanced countries need to integrate with the world at their own pace so that they can participate "on fair and equal terms" and retain their cultural identity.

Email this guy and tell him he's a dummy. Email laws in the US are interesting. If you draft an email but never send it you can still be sacked or sued for libel, even if you delete the email. Aren't you glad you don't live in the US? How many times have you drafted an email in anger, waited a few hours or a day before sending it, then deleted it. This is commonsense and has probably saved a lot more people from being fired than the majority of us would like to admit.

Thai wedding hasselsSI SA KET - A 39-year-old man yesterday filed a complaint with police demanding that his wife pay back his Bt70,009 bride price because she has refused to sleep with him during their three-year marriage. Police said Yuan Chalermsuk had asked them to summon his wife Se Chalermsuk, 22, to negotiate a settlement to end their common-law union.
Yuan contended it was her fault that the marriage had failed because she refused to have sex willingly. However, he admitted that he had forced himself upon her five times during the marriage.
Yuan said he had spent a total of Bt300,000 on the wedding feast, a two-baht-weight gold necklace for the family and the Bt70,009 in cash to marry Se in 1997.
"I only want my cash back," Yuan, who is distantly related to Se, told police.
Se, who admitted she had refused to have sex with Yuan, said she was willing to separate from him but would not return the bride price. She said Yuan had raped her and so had no right to demand the money back.
"I've never loved him. My parents forced me to marry him," Se said. "While we lived together I disliked him because of his drinking habit."
Se has been described as an attractive woman, although Yuan's looks apparently have not drawn the same praise.

From Red Herring:"Defensibility defines property." Historically, as technology has advanced, new kinds of property have become defensible: land became defensible with good fences, inventions with patents. Music recordings have traditionally been defensible through a combination of laws and technological roadblocks. As we all know, the Net and Napster take defensibility in the other direction.

Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Middlehoff is to be congratulated for taking his company's head out of the sand. Cutting a deal with Napster is a little like Richard Nixon's move to recognize China back in 1972 or President Clinton's planned trip to Vietnam. Turning an enemy into a partner is a smart move that, in almost all cases, leads to a reduction in hostilities.
