After the first 2 months of the 1997 season, the Orioles have
jumped out to the best record in the American League. After 48 games, the O's
are 33-15... 7 1/2 games in front of the World Series Champion Yankees after
sweeping them in a two game series at Yankee Stadium. Everything
seems to be going right with the O's this season- Except for injuries: Eric Davis has
been plagued all year by different minor injuries, Alomar has been at around 80% this
year due to a sprained ankle from before the season, and Rocky Coppenger has been troubled
by arm problems since day one.
Despite all this adversity, the Orioles are getting it done in a big way.
Perhaps its more veteran leadership, or just good team chemistry. Whatever
the reason, the O's are playing great team baseball this year, and they will
be a major contender for a World Series Championship.
