Deep in the Cypress and Pine Woods of Walt Disney World lies the beautiful and serene Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Rated as one of the top five campgrounds in the United States, Fort Wilderness offers guests an atmosphere of the old west mixed with the amenities of today. The 784 traditional campsites are divided into two types: preferred campsites, and partial-hookup campsites. The preferred campsites are generally for RV camping, since they offer a cable-TV connection, water and electricity hookups and sanitary disposal. The partial-hookup campsites, which are mainly used for tent camping, offer electricity and water hookups only. Tent campers will find the air-conditioned comfort stations, which are located throughout the resort, very handy, since they contain restrooms, private showers, an ice machine, telephones, and laundry facilities. If you're not the rustic type, you may prefer the Wilderness Homes and Cabins. The Homes and Cabins, which are just as nice and pricy as the fancy hotel rooms, have daily maid service and all contain a bedroom with a double bed, a spacious living room with a pull-down double bed, and a fully-equipped kitchen. At Fort Wilderness, guests will find a wealth of recreational activities, which include horseback riding, jogging, bicycling, fishing, and swimming. In fact, for swimming there are two heated pools, a large white-sand beach, and River Country is nearby. There is also a wide variety of rental boats, basketball, tennis, checkers, horseshoes, tetherball, volleyball, a petting farm, waterskiing, two video arcades, and even a museum where you can learn about the history of horses! An often overlooked activity is the nightly campfire program, which is open to all Walt Disney World resort guests. The program includes a sing-along with Chip 'n' Dale and free outdoor screenings of Disney movies and cartoons. The shops at Fort Wilderness consist of two grocery stores: The Meadow Trading Post and The Settlement Trading Post. They sell sandwiches, fruit, ice cream, chips, etc. The restaurants of Fort Wilderness are all located at Pioneer Hall, and they consist of Trail's End Buffet and Crockett's Tavern. They serve home-style fare, pizza, drinks, etc. Also located at Pioneer Hall is the long-running and very popular "Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue" dinner show, which features an all-you-can-eat home-style supper and a Western musical comedy revue.
