Imagination!
The Imagination! pavilion is one of the most fun in FutureWorld. It shows you how your imagination works, while making you use it. Inside the oddly-shaped glass pyramids of the pavilion, guests will find three very imaginative attractions: the Journey Into Your Imagination ride, which takes guests on an adventure to test their imagination; The Image Works, a playground for your imagination; and Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, a thrilling 3-D film.
Which attraction do you want to learn about?
Journey Into Your Imagination
As part of the recent renovations of the Imagination pavilion, the once beloved Journey into Imagination ride was transformed into the Journey into Your Imagination ride, a trip through the wild and nutty Imagination Institute. During the course of the tour, guests are put through several unusual "tests" to save their imagination from the doldrums of everyday life. The ride, narrated by the head of the Institute, Dr. Nigel Channing (played by Monty Python's Eric Idle), starts out with guests' imagination being scanned, which is found to be completely vacant, full of cobwebs! The first imagination-improving test then begins as guests' vehicles stop in pitch dark and they're bombarded by a series of sounds, one of which makes it sound like a huge freight train is whizzing by right beside your head. Guests also pass by another sound test in which an entire wall is covered with video screens and as sounds are heard, they produce their own unique colour on the screen, creating an almost psychedelic experience. Some sight tests are next, such as a glass table which is smashed by a falling brick as guests pass by, but on closer insepction, the table is without a scratch. One of the most interesting parts of the ride is the gravity test called "Up is Down".
Guests ride through several rooms in which all the furniture and other objects are on the ceiling, which is therefore the floor, causing your senses to wonder which way is actually up. Be sure to notice water driping up out of a tap, flames in a fireplace burning down, and many other little details and effects, which makes it hard to see everything on the first trip through. One of the last areas is called "Making Connections" where the walls are covered with hundreds of dots creating a gigantic connect-the-dots game. As guests ride through the area, the dots magically connect themselves to form pictures. Just before the ride ends, guests get their imagination scanned once again and it has reached such a high level, the scanner can't handle it! Dr. Nigel Channing then congratulates you on your imagination advancement along with a very special guest - Figment, the beloved, curious, little, purple dragon from the old Journey into Imagination ride.
The Image Works
The Image Works is now home to the Kodak What If... Labs, an area full of activities designed to stretch your imagination. This area, which guests pass through immediatley after getting off the Journey into Your Imagination ride, features several wacky activities with names like "What If Pictures Made Sounds," in which pictures on floor panels make the sound of the picture when stepped on. For instance, a lion roars, fireworks boom, or lightning thunders, creating a cacophany of peculiar sounds. Another activity related to sounds lets guests conduct their own symphony of back alley sounds! Standing in front of a screen depicting a back alley full of garbage cans, doors, a clothe line, and other noisy objects, all a guest has to do is point at an object to make it clang, crash, slam, bang, or boom. The more wild you move your arms around, the better the sound. Another part of the Image Works lets guests have their picture taken, and then on a computer screen, add funny features to their face. If you use your imagination, the possibilities are endless. Near the exit of the Image Works, guests can get the chance to purchase a photo of themselves among Disney characters, and there's also an area where guests can make their own CD of Walt Disney World music from a huge selection. Sold in kiosks around Walt Disney World, these CDs, called Walt Disney World Forever, are one of Disney's most imaginative merchandising outlets.
Honey, I Shrunk the Audience is a thrilling 3-D film where your imagination gets the best of you. As the story goes, the head of The Imagination Institute, played by Eric Idle of Monty Python fame, is presenting Professor Wayne Szalinski, played by Rick Morranis, with the Inventor of the Year Award. As the film starts, Mr. Szalinski isn't around, so his son Nick decides to demonstrate an invention of his father's called the Dimensional Duplicator. As he turns it on, a mouse is accidentally put into the machine. Soon, hundreds of mice are pouring out of the machine and into the audience. Suddenly the lights go out and guests squirm as mice (or a very life-like special effect) run past their legs. Soon, control is regained and the lights go back on. Proffesor Szalinski shows up to demonstrate his shrinking ray and how it can be used to cut down on baggage size. Something goes wrong and the whole audience is shrunk to the size of a bread box! As the theatre shakes with every on-screen footstep, Szalinski's other son picks up the audience. Fortunately, his mother demands he put it back where he found it. Just when you think it's all over, a pet snake gets loose and runs rampant through the screaming audience. Just before the guests are unshrunk, one final surprise occurs involving a dog and his allergies! This very entertaining movie may be a little frightening for the young, and maybe even the young at heart.
