As you probably know, there are people all over the spectrum when it comes to Y2K predictions. I find myself relatively low on the scale. I know that there will be major computer problems. But I believe that the basic infrastructure (power, banks, water, stock market) will be not be directly affected. See what I think will happen for more of my opinion.
Gary North is someone that I classify as an extremist. He is a doomsday alarmist, and he has lost touch with reality. You have to realize that everything Scary Gary sees, he sees through the lens of reconstructionist theology. He believes that God will destroy civilization and that the Christian church will rebuild it. That is a foregone conclusion in his mind. He is convinced that Y2K will be the instrument of that destruction. Scary Gary has family ties to the reconstructionist movement - I think his father-in-law is the founder of the idea.
Gary always emphasizes the most negative aspect of any information that he has. Having said that, I don't throw out everything he says - some of what he writes is actually true. But I do have fun with his quotes that are "way out there." Here are a few examples of what I call extreme:

"non-compliant systems will all fail"
"reporters are being paid to keep people from dealing effectively with Y2K"
"I have read more material on y2k than just about anyone on earth."
"The layoffs in 2000 and 2001 will dwarf those of the Great Depression."
