Malaysia Land of Eternal Summer

Introduction

Malaysia is situated in central part of South East Asia between the latitudes formed by 1° and 7° north and longitudes 100° ad 119° east(View Maps). Our north neighbors are Thailand, Burma, Laos and Vietnam. Whereas south ones are Singapore and Indonesia. It's divided into Peninsular(West Malaysia) and northern part of the island of Borneo by South China Sea.

Peninsular contains 11 states. West coast are : Malacca, Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Johor, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Federal Capital Territory of Kuala Lumpur (K.L). East Coast are Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. Sarawak and Sabah are in Borneo land.

Malaysia climate is truly ' Land of Eternal Summer' with uniformly hot and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 32°C. Annual rainfall is very high, around 2,000 mm to 3,000 mm. Humidity tends to hover around 80% throughout the year.

Our rain forests are among the oldest in the world which date back 130 million years and far older than jungles of the Amazon basin or Equatorial Africa. It has remarkably complex and diverse ecosystem of today. As many as 200 different types of tree can be found in a single hectare. Animals and birds also thrive in what is an ideal habitat for them. If you are lucky, you might see the largest flower in the world, even bigger that a football.

We have a diverse ethic, religious and cultural make-up. Population at 19.9 million which Malays are the largest group, follow by Chinese, Indian and others group like 'orang asli' like Iban, Khadazan and etc.

Official language is Bahasa Malaysia and English is a compulsory subject in schools. Meanwhile, Islam is the official religion, but freedom of worship is allowed for many Buddhists, Hindus and Christians.
