First stop was in Puerto Vallarta at Opequimar
to get diesel. Paradise Village Marina intends to install a fuel dock but it is not yet
complete, hence the five mile trip into PV. I was relieved to find that Opequimar actually
had diesel, since the previous time we were here, in January, they had run out and were
turning everyone away with the dreaded word "maņana"!
We left PV at noon, fully loaded with diesel and headed off
across Banderas Bay for the anchorage at Punta Mita about 16 miles away. It has been our
practice before any long trip to leave the marina after the goodbyes and head off
somewhere close by but quiet where we can organize the boat and rest before finally
setting off. Punta Mita might not have been the best choice, in that it is a somewhat
rolly anchorage, but by 1000 next morning, everything was squared away and the aft berth,
which we use as a sea berth, had been made up with all the junk we normally store there
moved to the forward cabin. We lifted the anchor and set off for Hiva Oa, 2800 miles away. |
