Leaving Mexico: March 11, 2000
We were late leaving, but only by an hour or so as we did a final wash down of the decks and filled the water tank to the brim. Friends came down to the dock to see us off including LOAFER, PO'OINO, MAKAI, and the Peters family from MORNING. We agreed to keep in touch for as long as possible on the Amigo Net which we have been using all the time we have been in Mexico. Finally all our goodbyes were said and it was time to cast off the lines. The boat was still completely disorganized below decks, but we were off.

Vlad and Paula at Paradise Village (10711 bytes) First stop was in Puerto Vallarta at Opequimar to get diesel. Paradise Village Marina intends to install a fuel dock but it is not yet complete, hence the five mile trip into PV. I was relieved to find that Opequimar actually had diesel, since the previous time we were here, in January, they had run out and were turning everyone away with the dreaded word "maņana"!
We left PV at noon, fully loaded with diesel and headed off across Banderas Bay for the anchorage at Punta Mita about 16 miles away. It has been our practice before any long trip to leave the marina after the goodbyes and head off somewhere close by but quiet where we can organize the boat and rest before finally setting off. Punta Mita might not have been the best choice, in that it is a somewhat rolly anchorage, but by 1000 next morning, everything was squared away and the aft berth, which we use as a sea berth, had been made up with all the junk we normally store there moved to the forward cabin. We lifted the anchor and set off for Hiva Oa, 2800 miles away.
