SV Tethys
Ocean Voyages

Since May 1999 we have voyaged aboard S/V Tethys from British Columbia to New Zealand.  These pages are excerpts of our daily logs of the ocean passages:

Ucluelet to Eureka (3 days)

San Diego to Isla Guadeloupe (2 days)

The Sea of Cortez (3 days)

Mexico to the Marquesas (28 days)

Marquesas to the Tuamotus (3 days)

Tuamotus to Tahiti (2 days)

Societies to Suvarov (6 days)

Suvarov to Tonga (5 days)

Tonga to New Zealand (10 days)

Of the 62+ days of ocean sailing, only two daytime passages were considered bad weather sailing:

In Mexico we motorsailed for 11 hours into a strong northerly with short steep seas. In Tonga we sailed close hauled, swiftly but very uncomfortably, into 6 foot seas in 30 knots of wind for about 10 hours. The only time Vlad got seasick.
