Haast Highway
Suspension bridge over the Muddy River. This bridge is rated for 5 persons at a time. However it is easier to cross alone.

We walked on the river bed and examined some of the rocks. It is interesting to see how water can smoothen the sharp and crumbly schist and quartz laden rock.

Found this white flower growing on the side of a tree. The Mountain Beech trees are covered in several layers of moss and other plants. This is a rainforest and the amount of plant life is amazing. white bell flowers growing on a mossy beech tree (24405 bytes)
