Yes I am planning a shoe string trip to Angkor Wat, Cambodia this year.
I have planned this trip since March 1999 and I'm going to do it on 2000. Need to do
it no matter what. It's no vacation but an adventure. Things to prepare.
#1 Get a
passport |
I need to
get a passport first. Heheh... It'll cost me about RM 300. South East Asia traveller do
not need a visa to enter the country. |
#2 Do
research |
Study and
do research on Cambodia. The country's politics, people, etc. How to get there, where to
stay, what to bring, how much the cost of the trip, things like that. Resources:

#3 Form a
team |
First I
need to form a team with at least minimum 2 person and maximum 4 person. Team members
should be very coorperative and able to help each other out when get into trouble. Most of
all, they must be a nut case like me to accept this challenge ! :-) |
#4
Calculate budget |
Hhmm...
that's the hardest task. Sometimes what we estimete is not enough or over the budget. I
think RM700 is enough. What do you think? |
#5 Time
& duration |
December.
I think the trip will take one week. |
#6 The
journey |
Take a
train from Penang to Bangkok. From Bangkok take another train or bus or tuk tuk to a Thai
border town called Aranyaprathet. Then cross the Thai-Cambodia border to a Cambodia border
town called Poipet. From there take a pick-up truck ride or what ever transportation to
Siem Reap, which is the nearest town to Angkor Wat. Later head straight to Phnom Penh stay
a few days there and take a plane back to Malaysia. Penang-->Bangkok-->Aranyaprathet-->Poipet-->Siem
Reap-->Angkor Wat-->Phnom Penh
