Muka
Head is my favorite place to go hiking, picnic, nature watching and
swimming. It's about 2 hours hike from Teluk Bahang jetty, you can
also reach there by boat. There's a lot of visitors on Saturday and
Sunday. The
hiking trail is along the costal line and it's cover with thick
vegetation. First you will reach Sungai Tukun forest reserve. There
are chalets for you to rent if you want to spend a night there (see
picture left). From here you can choose to hike to Muka Head or Pantai
Kerachut. After about an hour hike you will reach the Universiti Sains
Malaysia Marine Research Center, Muka Head. Another hour hike, then
you will reach Teluk Duyung. Most of the time, we refer Teluk Duyung
as Muka Head. There
are rubbish everywhere on the beach and the water is not as clear
compare to Redang or Payar island. After a long hike, a swim in the
ocean is the best way to cool yourself down. The beach also known as
Monkey Beach cause there are many monkeys there. You have to take good
care of your picnic basket or else they will steal it from you!
I have been there 3 times
and I still enjoy going there again. To
get back home, you might not want to hike back anymore because it's
too tiring. Well, don't worry cause there is a boat to take you back
to Teluk Bahang jetty, and it will cost you RM4 per person.
