Religious Rituals

We got to see two religious rituals - a typical Hindu cremation, and several special holiday animal sacrifices.

We saw a regular full course meal of sacrifices at midnight in this small temple in Kathmandu. They started with chickens, and then moved on to goats, etc. Here, the butcher presents a chicken at the altar.

OUCH! That knife is SHARP. Not a good place to be a goat. I just nervous with a goatee.

The dirty work finished, the head of the goat is placed on the altar and adorned with flowers and the red stuff they also use to put dots on your head (no kidding!).

Pashupatinath is the one of the holiest Hindu sites in the Indian subcontinent. These platforms, or ghats, are used for cremations. Keep and eye on the one to the right. This series of pictures took about an hour to occur.

The body is placed on top of the wood pile. Hey, has anyone checked for a pulse, just in case?

O.K., things are progressing. They better watch it - that hay looks flammable.

Dooo! That's definitely gonna leave a mark. On the ground!
