The Kathmandu Valley is the strip of land immediately south of the Himalayas. There are great views of the mountains, Buddhist and Hindu temples, and lots of people selling you souvenirs you couldn't imagine needing (tiger balm, miniatiure chess set, ghurka knife, hashish). Well, on second thought...

Every city in Nepal seems to have a "Durbar Square", which tanslates into something like "square with lots of durbars". This is the one in Kathmandu.
